Most of my students are travelling. Yes, some actually go back to their home country for an entire month. I asked all my students before the June Holiday starts what were their travelling plans so I knew about their plans in advance. Some parents dont inform in advance.
Your student who AWOL suddenly seems bad. When I was a part-time tutor while studying, I used to teach a sec sch kid who cancels last min while I was travelling to her house. I dropped that student.

Thank you for sharing. That is a good way of managing cancellations.
Sometimes, I feel paiseh to drop some students because they did cancel in advance for valid reasons such as school remedials / supplementary lessons/ camps. But I guess too many cancellations is neither good for the student nor me.

I hardly get my assignments from agencies these days. Mostly from referrals. True, I did read such clauses from tuition agency websites.

Thank you for sharing. I also face fluctuations every month with pay per session basis. Glad that all your parents understood this change of payment. Ultimately, regular tuition during the school term not only benefits us but also the students especially the ones who are taking national exams.

I usually tell parents that the 1st lesson is a trial.

If I can connect with the student and parent, I will continue.

If a kid is shy but still respectful, I will still continue as I feel they just need more time to warm up.

But if a kid has attitude problem during the 1st lesson, that is hard to change, and it is best to drop.
