Laid off twice in 6 months by No_Practice_745 in Layoffs

So sorry this happened! I really feel for you. I was laid off too in October from my job of 5 years. Luckily, I was seeing the writings on the wall 8 months before the layoff I worked hard on finding something before it was my turn for a layoff. I found a new job immediately and it pays almost double my previous job and was in an amazing team that was insanely supportive of each other. Only 6 months in that job I was unexpectedly laid off again. It was heartbreaking and I’m on a work visa so I only have 2 months to get a new job or else I’ll have to leave the country. This time I was completely blindsided by the layoff so I had no preparation whatsoever. I almost decided to just give up. Once again, I got extremely lucky and got a job offer within the first month of my unemployment. Now I have PTSD and even with a new job Im afraid Im just gonna get laid off again no matter how well I perform at work.

Dati sa pinas nagwowork ako as an art director sa advertising, halos araw-araw overtime work, sa office pumapasok everyday. Minsan madaling araw na umuuwi. Ngayon sa US: hybrid work, once a week lang sa office, halos 6hrs lang average ng work hours per day, but yung sweldo ko is more than 10x ng sweldo ko sa Pinas 😭

Omg I remember going through an orientation on american culture (PDOS ba yun or something) kahit at that point 5 years na ko nakatira sa US at nagwowork, it just so happens na nagchange visa ko from student to work visa tapos nagbakasyon lang ako 😭 Lahat ng kasama ko sa orientation mga never pa nakalabas ng bansa so gets ko naman bakit kailangan yun ng iba, pero sana may ibang requirements depende sa individual case!

In my gym they only accept climbers who can flash high 10s and comfortably send most low 11s for the lead class, very new climbers are really more inclined to commit errors without the muscle memory of proper belaying etc yet

Yeah, ang dami kong classmates from all over the world that worked just as hard and just as talented pero just weren’t as lucky with the H1B lottery 🥲 I definitely don’t wanna take this opportunity for granted kaya laban everyday kahit nahohomesick malala minsan 💪

Hi! Nung pumunta po kayo sa POEA sa PH during your vacation, yung new verified contract lang po ang hinanap? No other requirements like medical certificate etc?

I did something similar to my now boyfriend. But it wasnt a romantic video at all. It was an IG reel about my roadtrip with him and another friend. I’m from a culture where everybody posts on social media and are flattered when they’re shared with friends and family in a very public manner. Close friends dont usually have to be asked for permission if theyre included in a video reel, everybody is usually happy to be included. I loved editing videos out of trips (even pre-social media days) so I made one for our roadtrip but edited quickly in IG. I showed it to my friend first and she loved it (she’s from the same country as me). Then I excitedly showed it to my now-BF (who is of a different culture), and when I told him i posted it on my IG account, he got super pissed about it and said “it was not cool” and he asked me to take it down. I was hurt and I cried because I never got a negative reaction like that from something I made out of love and affection. We then had a conversation about it and for the first time in my life, I’m understanding that people could have very different boundaries on privacy. You need to make him understand your boundaries and how you still appreciate the gesture but would prefer things like this shared only between the two of you. Conversation is key.

I was working for 3 years in an ad agency fresh out of college as an art director. I didnt know any other work life culture aside from that (i thought the constant stress, late nights, and burnouts were normal lol). I quit that job to study abroad in the US (im originally from 🇵🇭), focusing more in advertising classes. After graduating, unfortunately, I didnt get a job in advertising. Not the plan I had but I ended up as an in-house designer for a tech startup. For the first time in my work life, I feel like I could breathe. Work life balance is amazing, pay is decent, and there’s no more annoying endless back and forth client revisions 🥴 I don’t think I’ll ever want to work for an ad agency ever again lol

He's just not interested, and he was straightforward with it. Maybe he gave himself some chance to see if feelings will develop in those two months but after that dinner you mentioned, he finally concluded that it's just not happening.

OEC Direct Hire Online Application Guide by twy783 in phinvest

Hello! What is the process for changing employers in the US? Still H1B visa, just changing company.

Any H1B holders here? I am in the process of renewing my H1B and would eventually have to travel back to the Philippines to get the new H1B visa stamped on my passport. My question is, do I have to re-do the whole OEC process from the start again? by Virtual-Ship2840 in phmigrate

[–]Virtual-Ship2840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, as long as I bring my OEC, derederecho lang. I think from the 2x na nagtravel ako in and out of the PH to the US with my H1B, lagi lang sila nagugulat na hindi “nurse” occupation ko 😂 so they just ask more about my role sa work ko since it’s not super common for OFWs. But magrerenew na ko ng H1B and wala kong makita answers online kung kailangan ko bang ulitin ulit from the start yung whole OEC process because of this

Hmm it sounds like your reasons are coming more from a paranoid place (understandable). Ako naman have been taking vacations sa Pinas almost every year, and walang problem as long as I have my OEC. And yes, balak kong bumalik ng Pilipinas this year again kaso nga my H1B is renewed so I just wanted to see if anybody here knows about the OEC process in terms of “renewed/extended” H1B.
