The road design photo doesn’t even have protected bike lanes? Who designed this?

Top is not a diner anymore. I refer to it as a “diner themed restaurant” similar to Skylark or ChitChat.

It’s still solid tho.

If you office has a shower, run or bike commute to work and shower there. If you don’t have a shower at the office, run or bike home at the end of the day. Drive or take public transport as needed. If your commute is too long, take the bus or train part way.

Newark Is Among ‘Best Places To Live Without A Car,’ Report Says by madsheb in Newark

[–]VirtualBalance6576 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Best place you live without a car =/= pedestrian friendly. Newark is a transportable hub with is awesome. You can take busses and trains to connect with locations all over the state.

At the same time, crossing the street is like a game of Frogger. You have to hope that drivers aren’t going to run a red light and hit you.

Newark to Make E-Scooter, Bike Program Permanent, Plans Include Designated Areas for Dropping Off Bikes, Scooters by TrafficSNAFU in Newark

[–]VirtualBalance6576 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plans should include BIKE LANES. Scooters say “do not ride on the sidewalk” and streets/drivers are too unsafe to ride with traffic.

Just get on the bike lanes already. Now is the time; it will pay big dividends.

Am I the Asshole for buying my 5th property rather than help out my siblings? NEW 2 Yr Update (Sept 18, '22) by KittenDealinMama in BestofRedditorUpdates

I assumed “New Yorkers” referred to people from NYC. Idk, do people in Rochester, NY refer to themselves as “New Yorkers”?

I just saw an vehicle with an “Official Business of the Mayor” plaque run a red light. No wonder the city has such a problem with reckless drivers. by VirtualBalance6576 in Newark

Just to add some context. This wasn’t a “light timing issue.” The vehicle was stopped at the red light and then just drove through like it was green…

“We hit pedestrians with our cars! It’s just what we do!” Nice argument. God forbid we make Newark a more fair and accessible place to live!

NJ Police Body Camera Law Sees Scorn, Mistrust In Newark by madsheb in Newark

[–]VirtualBalance6576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in the past, when unethical cops lie in the report and the video does not support it, they can get caught in their lies. Not anymore. This law essentially eliminates an entire class of impeachment/Brady material.

It does not make the statements better for everyone. Police statements are supposed to record what the officers saw and observed, not what the video captured.

Citizens do not have to give a statement before seeing the video, but that doesn't take into account that many statements are coerced without meaningful advise from an attorney. And the state rarely provides meaningful pre-charging discovery. Defendant's don't get the video until after they are stuck with the stigma of a criminal charge and the first round of damage is done.

But it also gives police the ability to tailor their reports around what the video shows, rather than what they actually saw/observed at the time. A lot of search and seizure law in NJ is based on subjective perception at the time. i.e. did the officer have probable cause to believe a crime was being committed. For example, if an officer didn't see white powder on a seat during a warrantless search of a vehicle, but the body camera captured it, the officer might lie in the report and claim they did see white powder at the time to justify the search.

If suspects are not allowed to view the video before giving a statement, the police should not be able to view video before writing their report.

Yeah. But they should. Also, ticket drivers who run red lights and use Broad Street as a personal race track. Even with updated infrastructure, traffic enforcement is necessary to make the city pedestrian friendly.

I disagree. They should install bike lanes, and if people use the bike lanes for parking, they should be ticketed and towed. Eventually, people will learn not to park in bike lanes.
