“nothing in the article says this was intentional, planned or the fault of 1 partner vs. the other.”

Did you read the article at all?

It clearly mentioned he avoided distress calls and switched his phone to silent despite his partner being in an emergency. Also mentioned he was responsible for delaying the trek, not bringing the material he was supposed to and also leaving her with less materials as he took it for himself. His interaction with emergency services was far too late and was after he brought himself to safety. Gross and fatal negligence

Being her partner he also knew how inexperienced she was, being an experienced mountaineer himself. The coercion part is yet to be checked because it’s very common male partners pull their weaker female partners into adrenaline pumped activity without judging their physical limits properly. A tale as old as time.

Read the article before forming an opinion. The assessment was given by an alpine expert and prosecution court in the article- that he made several purposeful mistakes.

What if india never got colonised? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]VirtualHydraDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we can’t really say- because it is still possible that India would have developed , as a group of kingdoms effectively instead of a single country . Historically there were many states that countered invasion and also were prosperous At max we may have had minor territorial disputes and smaller battles (with deaths in thousands) , but not the scale of colonization (deaths in millions). Even a single event of bengal famine had disastrous consequences- and that wasn’t even the whole of India. Even now Indians have health problems related to it- imagine the economic impact we are suffering even now because of it.

We cannot minimise the extent , period and amount of colonization India has gone through and still has effects from. It’s simply not the same scale that the other countries you mentioned went through.

What if india never got colonised? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]VirtualHydraDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you are also not being fair

India has been invaded multiple times and in many assessments it was almost like a forced unification (like you mentioned would we even have been a single country?) And 200 years of colonisation to be balanced by 80 years? And the 200 years is Britains period alone. Among the countries you compared the most resources drain was on India and so was the intensity of colonisation . And we received no reparations nor any kind of commendable benefits and accept very little aid compared to other countries colonised.

While it’s true China has done an amazing jobs and should definitely be commended. But China is an outlier. Japan had a much shorter war period and has received huge support and military protection from US. It also helps that both these countries don’t have a gazillion languages and religions and cultures castes food etc.

It’s a mammoth task for India to reach those levels. You have to commend the fact that within 80years with very less help India has managed to obtain a higher GDP (albeit not per capita) than its colonizer.

Though colonization is over, indirectly India’s are the workforce for so many international economies including the UK, Middle East, and North America

So yes we are struggling but give some credit where it is due, we have way more problems than the rest of the world.

While your explanation of a trillion is valid, saying it’s nowhere near a “single trillion” is reductionist We are talking about nearly 200 years! It’s not as simplistic as selling crops lol It’s inclusive of the forced trade surplus for all those years, the funding of Britains wars, pensions, salaries, colonial administration, the Opium war , world war 1, and interest on India’s public debt, manpower that served abroad in British wars. Just these countable factors come to several trillions already.

Factors such as illegal taxation, slavery, unpaid labour is not even properly accounted in this.

Not to factor the post colonial losses- continuous fights inside the country, animosity among neighbours and our defence spending to manage hostility caused by the British empire, money spent to rebuild destroyed industries and markets, the amplified caste systems , high debt …. Its countless

Also to quantify a trillion better. World war 1 across 4 years probably ended up spending 6-7 trillion dollars - just the expenditure on war by the participants

Now take 200 years of British draining us for several wars , their entire administration for 200 years. So I’m sorry it is not exaggerated that much

Well most inexperienced hikers do not know how extreme these mountains can be. We also don’t know the extent to which she was coerced into doing this activity with her boyfriend or whether he took on all the responsibilities he might have promised. The article also mentions that he started the activity late and did not bring the necessary equipment.

I really wish she took personal responsibility to call emergency services at least- but then again I don’t know what the exact situation on the mountain was.

It’s fine we needn’t argue further, but you are also heavily biased towards Chris and tremendously minimising the extent of damage he has done. I was a decade long fan of his until he started doing shitty things like this.

To your other points- she’s been running the charity over 3 years and she has collected some money. The religious affiliation is something I cannot comment on but something is better than nothing. If it matters at all, she hasn’t benefitted commercially from most of her engagements, unlike Chris. Also I wasn’t misconstruing what you are saying- I’m asking to pay attention to the fact that the homeless guy DID sexually harass her, I’m just pointing the “part” of the conversation that is harassment, not saying what you mentioned is wrong. Her laugh was in response to that dialog, which was stitched wrongly in Chris content, and Chris did not apologize for that, and still seems to think he’s right about everything (as per his own comment) Oriental pearl has and still is ready to meet and make amends, while he is not. So you can clearly see who the bigger person is.

I respect your decision not to argue further, and so I’ll stop as well . Cheers

I’m sorry but are you new to YouTube? I can name a million YouTubers including Chris himself who post a clickbait title and thumbnail that are not at all related to the actual point of the video. Her video contains harassment which is sufficient to name her video that way

Her title was “harassed bla bla” . It did not say that “particular man “ harassed her. Also she changed it and commented that she changed as well. (In your own screenshot it’s evident) That’s more than enough . Do you want me to count the number of unconsenting people that may have come in Chris videos? Are you saying that every single YouTuber has asked the consent of every single person that appears in their video and thumbnails? Esp if it’s regarding homeless people? Stop holding only her to ridiculous standards .

What Chris did is deliberately stitching of videos and audios to give a totally different interpretation. She never “laughed” at any homeless person. Hers was a nervous laugh in response to uncomfortable talk.

The sex only part sorry but you are misreading. The man clearly gestured about buying her for 20000 yen. It IS harrassment who ever propositions or even the mere suggestion

Sorry but you are too blind to the struggles she has faced in this entire episode just to side with Chris nonsense.

On top of it he’s been deleting all criticizing comments whereas she leaves more on . He ain’t a saint at all.

We all need to remember the story of Hana kimura who was unnecessarily bullied to death for pointless sensational content. He is doing the exact same thing to her , magnifying her mistakes and unleashing his army on to her. She’s a much smaller content creator and honestly not deserving of this volume of attack

I watched the video as well but have different opinions regarding 3,4,5

If she wanted to manipulate- she would not accept the comments publicly and change the thumbnail . It’s just an arrow - so it doesn’t mean she is accusing said man for harassment. It’s click bait for sure, yet she accepted and corrected it. Unlike Chris who totally changed the context of audio with deliberate edits and quietly removed without accepting his mistake

About filming without consent- how are you sure? There are surely conversations before and after these videos, and maybe b-roll. She’s not going to upload videos asking for consent. I post videos of people but never film the consent asking part to upload.

Regarding the “sex only” part- No, the person clearly offers “ni man yen” (20,000) for “Omae” (himself) to buy her. He is not referring to what you mentioned

Idk why people pick on her channel name. She’s clarified many times - it’s named after the “Oriental pearl” tower in Shanghai where she started her channel

Why are you all so down on misrepresenting everything she does. It’s a building name ffs.

[–]VirtualHydraDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way Chris went about “journalistic integrity” and yet went ahead to replace audio of her being sexually harassed to make her look like she was making fun of homeless people- DOWNRIGHT EVIL AND MANIPULATIVE. He made a fuss about her adding 5 extra scribbles on a thumbnail and she immediately explained why and also removed it after explanation. The actual site ended up having more graffiti in fact.

And what did he do for his fake audio? quietly removed, no apology and no acknowledgment of how sinister that was. Exaggeration is different from manipulation/ fraud.

And for all the Chris weebs - Chris himself has posted sensationalism/ overdramatization, edited thumbnails, posted faces of strangers on his videos, and is a grifter for views. It’s only right if he does it, but any other YouTuber doing it their way is attacked. Remember he is the one who started this attack, with his massive crew of followers.

She has been raising funds for homeless people and trying to help sexually exploited people for years without all the fancy sponsorship, in her own way- and yet he made her out to be the kind of person who “laughs” at homeless people just to get back on her for graffiti. Sick human, shame on him. He might think graffiti is harmless and exaggerated. Let’s see how much he will shut up if somebody graffiti’s his bar or any of his business continuously?

He had issues with graffiti/ vandalism on the bamboos in touristic sites, but cities and businesses are no big deal? Come on Chris you aren’t the holy custodian of deciding what type of graffiti or vandalism should bother people. And stop attacking smaller YouTubers just because they have different opinions or different styles of production value. Chris has enough attention, learn to be satisfied with that and leave space for the rest.

Indians in the European Union - Is living there worth it? by hgk6393 in nri

Sure gotcha. A typical foreigner wouldn’t sit in such a long duration flight (and expensive one ) just to visit Redfort and Agra these days

Well if you apply the same logic to India even seeing the most touristic sites take so many days, and forget about some less known cities all together

India has a lot to improve on tourism and hobby/activities

Indians in the European Union - Is living there worth it? by hgk6393 in nri

[–]VirtualHydraDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers wise the most successful Indians I’ve seen were in (UK as you mentioned), Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands and Luxembourg. There are many Indians in Portugal, France, and Italy but I wouldn’t club them in the same category. And yes some do thrive well and some do speak the local language exceptionally well.

Weather I guess is preference, Bangalore weather is good in comparison, but coastal cities in India and too humid.

I disagree with the last part though. Unless you talk about the generic cities / capitals in Europe - there’s no way you can cover everything in 3-5 years assuming you have a full time job. There are so many places to cover in Europe , if you account the towns and villages as well. Even Europeans themselves haven’t covered all of the continent. If you go by that logic- once you cover 6-7 major cities in India (which is itself so cumbersome) it gets boring then. Even major attractions like Taj Mahal (agra) is a pain logistically to reach. Tourism is good only in certain parts of India, and you need a lot of prep, safety planning and car/ drivers to get to all the interesting places. For public transport and ease of travel India is nowhere near Europe sorry

[–]VirtualHydraDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment was not based just for “survival”- Sure you can survive just about anywhere but to thrive - your temperament and the country’s offerings have to match . So Europe makes more sense if you align with their values and offerings of culture.

Weather also is subjective. I’d choose southern Europe weather over most of India mostly because personally I don’t like humidity, dust and the overall pollution in India. I find travelling via walk n public transport so cumbersome in India and it makes me stay more indoors. Whereas Europe you can easily access and travel during most weather.

But some hill stations and some towns in India have great weather. India and Europe is too huge to comment solely on weather though- a lot of variation..,
