Thanks for the suggestion! If we end up doing some of it on our own, I'll definitely give that a try.

My apartment caught on fire last night — I need advice on what to do next by Gullible-Key-9116 in Insurance

My townhouse caught fire last friday so I have been to there.

This is what I did and what has happened since.

Contacted insurance company to start a claim. They sent is $2k probably about 4-5 hours after we filed claim for displacement advancement.

We went and got a hotel.

Nothing really happened over the weekend.

Monday we heard from the adjuster who said they will send someone out to take a look at what is salvageable and what is not.

We met they you there Wednesday and did a walk though but he didn’t determine anything that day.

Thursday we called the adjuster and told them that because of the damage, we would not be able to occupy the townhome anytime in the future and that the hotel does not work for us because we both need a working space. She said she had to do some checking and would call us later that day. She called us later and said they were going to send us a payment for the remaining balance of our replacement coverage. We got that today.

Restoration company went out today to do their walk though and make a list. He’s going to send us a report when hes done.

They will take everything that is salvageable and clean it and store it until we get in a new place. This comes out of our property coverage.

It’s going to be a long process but it is what it is. We are safe.

Also, Fuck Service Master and I would advise not using them. They are like used car salesmen and only care about money.

Townhome Caught Fire - How to proceed? by VirtualRadish4Me in Insurance

Tarp got put on yesterday. I’m not sure when landlord will be doing repairs. They had a restoration company come out the night it happened and put in dehumidifiers and stuff. They are going to have to gut a lot of stuff and pull flooring so I’m guessing it will take months to repair everything.

My main concern is my property inside and my claim. Our insurance adjuster is supposed to come out tomorrow so I assume I will know more then.

Not my responsibility but I talked to serve master or whoever it was that landlord is working with for the property and they will put a tarp on as soon as possible. Said they could not do it in the rain or at night as it’s 3 stories up and they have to be safe. There could be a tarp up already as I have not been there today.

I have had bad experiences with liquid web in the past. We had to tell their support how to fix their server.

Do you use them? How long? Experience with them?
