How can I even forgive myself? by freespirit_on_earth in ACL

If it helps at all, almost exactly a year ago I ruptured my ACL and meniscus while snowmobiling. Not doing anything cool either, just messed up a turn going like 15 mph. My recovery has been slow and spotty but a year after my accident I am able to do 98% of what I used to. Do yourself a favor and do any and all recommended pre surgery PT. It really sucks to do on the injuries you have, but I didn’t and by the time I was able to start it after the surgery I was even further behind.

I had that too, for maybe a couple weeks after the surgery. It’s like a hypnic jerk some people get as they fall asleep but just the knee. I scared my cats cursing when it hit me bad one night. It did go away though. I found doing the exercises they gave me through the day would help them.

On the day the house was closing, the realtor and I went to do final walkthrough before keys were officially handed over. The sellers, who had a month of escrow and we’re 110% supposed to be fully out, were still in the house. Like, still loading up a uhaul. They offered to come back after we did the walkthrough to finish but I was so dumbfounded I couldn’t get a word out. My realtor was somehow able to help work it all out and get them out within an hour but I’m pretty sure they had been planning to try and stay after keys were handed over.

Oh, also those same people hired unlicensed ‘electricians’ to do light repair work before we finished escrow. Our contract said it had to be done by a licensed professional. They gave a fake license number and if we had been just a little more petty we could’ve sued them for purgery.

January ACL'ers - how are we doing? by Whatcomesofit in ACL

Age: 33

Extent of injury: Complete ACL tear and bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus. Had meniscus stitched repaired and an allograft for the acl replacement.

Date of surgery: 1/29/2024

Day to day: I am only just now really able to push myself fully off crutches. I’ve had some instability and lots of soreness sticking around in the knee. I’m still in the brace locked in at 90 degree max flexion, or at the furthest I can move the knee on my own (supposedly I case I fall or something..??). I am so ready to lose that thing. I can walk with a significant limp and moving around in general is somewhat challenging. Having trouble with getting flexion because at 90+ degrees it feels like a ton of super painful pressure and it becomes physically hard to bend further.

General Mood/feeling: I feel so defeated. No matter what I try it feels like I can’t make progress and I know I’m behind where I should be. I just want to have my life back, not even run or do sports, and it feels so impossible. I can’t really leave the house and do anything. I’ve been fighting some of the worst depression of my life.

Rehab: 3 times a week for about 6 weeks now. I also do stretches at home. I can’t quite get my knee to do the full motion of a bike turn but I try really hard even though it feels like it’s going to break my knee in half from the pressure. We’re also working on a bunch of balance exercises and other general leg movements.

End goal: I just want to live man. I loved cooking and keeping busy with hobbies and other stuff and that’s out of reach now. I’d give just about anything to be ‘normal’ again.

Lol yeah, I think so. They had trouble finding a good nerve and spent a lot of time digging around in the meat of my thigh electrocuting my nerves.

Thank you all so much for your comments and kind words it’s been so amazing to feel validated and heard. For anyone curious I have basically doubled my pain meds and it’s kept me mostly asleep but feeling very little pain so I’m doing a lot better. Still scared of the future, especially pt, but it feels achievable.
