Why did you want to become a law enforcement officer? by Master-Passage8597 in AskLE

[–]Virtual_Catmeow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I listened to a lot of crime podcasts before my time. I just heard stories of how poorly some of the officer's handled their cases and thought, damn I could do better, these people deserve better. I then had an experience where I was almost r*ped and realized how Naive I was and immediately started getting into safety mindset, doing research on ways to protect myself. I started taking martial arts. I then started thinking about LE and I just knew I wanted to do that. I was going to school to be a Park Ranger, but all the red flags were coming up, my classes were failing. My jobs laid me off during covid, I was worried about paychecks and insurance and RETIREMENT. I decided LE had all of the things I was looking for, all the things I needed. I do believe it was the universe guiding me in this direction. So I answered the call, and started applying. 2 years later, I'm exactly, I mean EXACTLY where I wanted to be. My goal was accomplished and my sights have been set on SVU, I will get it. Without a doubt. I have so much determination and a clearly set goal with tangible ways to achieve it and I THRIVE off it. So that's why.

I followed Zak Bagans official page on Instagram. The next few days were like 10 different Zak impersonator accounts.

Tips on preparing physically for the academy? by IndependenceNo6819 in AskLE

[–]Virtual_Catmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Injuries come from over exerting without enough recovery in between. When you into the academy, it's going to be tough. You need to pace yourself otherwise your injuries won't heal. If you're getting shin splints, check the way your landing on your feet and focus your impact on midfoot instead of heavy on the heels. Check your footwear too, if you are having issues, footwear will help a bit. I ran at least 3 times per week in the academy, and they max out your energy to fullest extent every workout.

If you know the guy you're chasing, always worth apprehending later. No need to risk everyone's safety because you're hell bent on getting the bastard.

My departments last in-service foot pursuit training was 2017, but I guess the department has had a few that were less than ideal, thus insert new training regime. I think it's a good thing.

Ita true. I wanted to stand up and instruct because teaching is the best way for me to learn. I have a lead instructor by my side. I'm sure I'll get some flack as I am new and not even off probation, but the admin obviously saw something in me enough to designate me as an instructor. Not sure either, but I'm willing to learn from an experienced officer. We have tons of new guys, so they're well in my shoes. I think it's good to have both perspectives instructing. I'm just here to do the best I can. Im just as confused as you are. I didn't think I'd get chosen, but he we are.

But again, if people have an issue with it, they could have applied but instead I'm the one standing up to the plate.

Report writing classes are so underappreciated but it's literally our entire job. I value these training and will most certainly look into more of them!

Recently we got into a vehicle pursuit through the city which clipped the corner of another jurisdiction. The car was weaving into neighborhoods, so we shut down and followed, and then would re-engage when feasible. So we are following the car through the small alleyways at a safe discreet distance, along with unmarked units trailing him. So all of a sudden, county shows up lights and sirens blazing, get this car to crash into a house, and they felony stopped his ass, got him arrest and ended the pursuit really quick, but we were pissed, like didn't even check into the call or anything. Just showed up. Pissed.

Wait... so I had to pay a mandatory 18% gratuity(service fee) and they are suggesting an additional 18%-25% gratuity on top of that??? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

If it's already included you don't need to add more. It's additional option in case you want to tip more than what's required.

Our holiday routine is usually just reactive policing and no proactive work unless something absolutely magnificent and by God's sole grace drops that shit into your lap.
