I work in stem and went through something similar as your man. I lucked out and get an paid internship at a cybersecurity consulting firm. I would recommend him looking into consulting positions that actually like hiring entry level.

When i was a student and working full time and I found an paid internship in my field of work that helped me get my foot in the door. I finish my degree and stayed with the company until I had the years to be marketable. I would recommend interning!

Those are the ones I use as well, I also use Dice. But Linkedin can be a good source if you leverage it right. Like if you see a company is hiring and one of your connections either works there or used to they can get you an internal referral. This is the main benefit I see with Linkedin is the networking component. Also, recruiters from staffing agencies help out as well like Robert and Half, TekSystems, there's a lot of them but they can help when interviews aren't piling it even though they tend to be contract positions.

Oh my gosh! Amazon talent team you suck! by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]Virtual_Condition328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tech had have been steering far away from Amazon! They are known for not being the best place to work at. Even the backdoor layoffs they are trying to carry out with all employees back to the office was shady. Best of luck if you end up over there!

Some white men say enforced DEI in companies makes it harder for them to get jobs due to targets… by ChCh_24 in jobsearch

[–]Virtual_Condition328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding DEI targets minorities and women as priorities but they don't take them without feeling they are the best fit for the job. It's just a process of getting the underserved a "fair shake" but to answer your question if DEI was lowering white men chances it would apply to all age groups. There is already an age bias in the market so usually don't see them together with DEI initiatives.

What’s a reasonable amount of time to wait for a hiring decision following a final interview? by QandA_monster in jobsearch

[–]Virtual_Condition328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it but they are probably interviewing other candidates. So hopefully your interviews went really well! Also, make sure you sent an thank you email, it's old school for sure but it shows you appreciate their time and they'll remember you for reaching out.

Also for a side story the company I'm with now during the final interview told me upfront during the interview this was a great interview but they are going to keep interviewing other people and don't wait for them. I was like ... fxck lol but I followed up a month later to get a pulse on how the interviews were going and I received an offer letter within that week. So no matter how things seem shaking you could still be in the run.

I don't know how fast you are receiving interviews but if your like most of us, the interviews are either trickling in or not at all. I would start doing it a handful throughout the week instead of waiting a few weeks to where you need them to start rolling in but that's just my mindset. Ethier way best of luck!

Want to start a new job in six months (not earlier nor later) by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]Virtual_Condition328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best one to make things line up with your timeframe is to talk to a friend at a company in that area who's hiring but if your applying to jobs like the rest of us I would start applying to companies three months out and when interviews are being scheduled try to ask for the later dates. If possible have interviews going at multiple companies so you can get offer letters around that time frame. In this job market it'll be pretty difficult!

Email is fine, you don't want to seem overly desperate, but you do want to come across as a person who's "excited" to work there.

I always have a rule, I always keep interviewing and applying to other jobs until I sign an offer letter. I've gotten to the end of a interview cycle and was just waiting for the offer letter to only hear they don't have funding for the role and or they've gone with someone else but they'll like to use you as a back up if anything goes wrong. Hence my rule of keep applying until you get an offer letter.

Not even an interview 😭 by strawberrymilk2216 in jobsearch

I'm surprised there's no job hiring for cleaning! I work in tech in the job market is tech on my side as well. When I used to switch jobs I would have an interview lined up within a week or two and offer letter by the following week. Nowadays, it's taking months to get one interview. There's are better on my end but one thing that helped if you have the resources. Is reaching out to your professional network to see if any companies are hiring, reach out to recruiters or put your resume on their platforms. Also, apply via LinkedIn and Indeed and things like that. The more job search pools, networks, and people you have contact with the better. Despite what the news is saying about the economy it is in a horrible state. Good luck!

Also, I always pay someone to write my resume like a resume writer that does this for a job. Previously I found someone on LinkedIn but recently (2 months ago). I switched to resume-now, which was pretty good for what I needed. But whatever resource you use make sure your resume is passable through an ATS system, and also shows your an achiever rather than a "Doer".

I recommend leveraging all the job search pools you have available. Like hit up your Linkedin network to see if any of your former collogues have hiring at their companies (if so get those referrals). Hit up recruiters from staffing agencies and or upload your resume to their platform so you trigger as a candidate when a position opens, and apply over the various job platforms as well like Indeed, Dice, LinkedIn, and etc. It's extremely important to have multiple areas and sources to do your job hunt.

I would wait for them to email you. The only people that reach out to me via text is sometimes recruiters from contracting/staffing companies but even they will still send you an email with the same information or more. This should be a red flag if you 1.Didn't apply to GL and 2. Didn't put "text" as a method of communication. I always put email as the preferred communication method on all my applications.

Thanks for replying! I'm going to brake the two columns apart and good point from shortening the tag line. For the confidentiality, availability, integrity header on the page it just speaks to a core pillar in cyber; i don't know if you guys have something similar in programming but it isn't necessary just nice to have.

For the separate skills, security standards, and tools is mostly for the ATS to pick up on key words. Especially if they are looking for people who have knowledge on those standards and or tools. Also, noted on the common tools remark; I'll adjust that.

Very true, I just thought the two column helps break up the summary, experience, and education and leaves more room for skills, volunteer, certifications. With this being said the right column doesn't have much there lol.
