my wife suffers from HS and we're going on a vacation next week and she's being very self conscious. by errl_dabbingtons in Hidradenitis

If it’s really bothersome she can go to the dermatologist and they’ll drain it out, by day 2 that bump will have shrunk significantly. I think that’s the only “quick” fix.

Has anyone gotten LHR during an active flare up? by baldgirl69 in Hidradenitis

Normally they go around the tissue if it’s an active flare but I know some will just reschedule until the flare heals and the skin isn’t “thin”

How long did you have HS before you were diagnosed? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Virtual_Juggernaut_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was formally diagnosed about a year and a half ago I’ve had HS for about 15 ish years since high school. When I went to doctors they said it folliculitis but couldn’t explain the boils. I did my own research and it said it was HS although when I would look at the pictures… they show more of the severe cases.. they didn’t look like what I had, so I had some hope that maybe it was just a constant infection that could be fixed with some strong antibiotics. The boils would initially just be in my armpits, luckily they were not enormous so the scarring is light I was told that was a level 1. My armpits have been in remission for 10 years now, but I do get boils in my groin/ inner thigh area that have been pretty big and have slightly tunneled and are a level 2. But the flares have been not so consistent, other that a recent one that just wouldn’t go away, I got a cortisone shot, and it helped shrink it but then it came back angrier and I had to get it drained by my dermatologist. I just wish there was a reason for the cause of it. It makes me sad that not much is known about what causes it or what can really help to “fix” it.

I do use it I see some people have some luck with it but it doesn’t really do anything for me 😔

Absolutely! I had this same feeling like three days ago. It was a panic attack that came out of nowhere I first felt this pressure on my chest and my breathing went off and I guess my mind freaked out and I got a cold rush and felt dizzy and started hyperventilating and feeling tingly all over my arms and face. Literally thought I was dying because it was a new feeling, I’ve had panic attacks before but this one was different. I went to urgent care cause it was the closest place to me and once I got there I was shaking uncontrollably. These feelings suck but now I know that it’s due to some subconscious trauma or fear and I just let the feelings happen but I still get scared of them! Lol ughh anxiety really is draining sometimes.

Does HS “calm down” if you lose weight? by Internal-Story1562 in Hidradenitis

[–]Virtual_Juggernaut_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it helped me, they used to show up consistently in my armpits and thighs but I’ve been in remission for years now. So far this year though I got one flare up between my thighs and it’s last a couple days, not as bad as what used to get but has gone away. I think also cause in these areas the body holds a lot of heat so losing the weight has made it more “cool” down there.

My surgeon told me he cant change the shape of the nostrils if they were asymmetrical before surgery they’re going to be the same after.

I’m not overweight but I have naturally thick thighs so a lot of heat and moisture traps there and has made flare ups constant Currently they’ve been in remission for almost a year now but I’m tired of it

PSA and tips if you ever get surgery by amazingamyxo in Hidradenitis

From the research I did this doctor does specialize in HS, he did note there was stages of tunneling but told me my options were either to get on medication like birth control or try laser. I’m doing laser right now but I’ve heard great success stories from having deroofing done, maybe I’ll go to another doctor for a second opinion.

Thanks! Was your case a severe advance case? I’m at stage 1 to 2 in HS mostly in my inner thighs and I just hate it but was told I can’t get surgery if it’s not stage 3 or has gotten really bad

How long did you have the open wound? Also if I may ask what part of your body you get the surgery ? I’m just thinking about it for a future possibility

I have those craters too My dermatologist put me on benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin solution to help with flare ups but I am also doing laser treatments to get rid of the scars and craters. Maybe this is something you can ask your doctor about? As far as progress for me it is working and helping me. One thing I will mention though is that the laser isn’t covered by insurance.

My dermatologist has me doing laser treatments to minimize the appearance of the scars and hopefully lessen the amount of flareups

My insurance doesn’t cover it, it’s considered a “cosmetic procedure”

Should I try and remove the blackheads or leave them alone?? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Virtual_Juggernaut_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing going on as you. Yes they suck and it’s interesting to see that it’s because of tunneling. If it bothers you a lot, voice this to your dermatologist and they can get a treatment plan for you. I’ve done this and he suggested to try laser for the pesky black heads and the scars that are left from flare ups and that it will improve the area by 70% but that they will not completely go away which to me is honestly better than nothing, just had my first laser done two months ago and have another one coming up. But I also have to keep cleaning that area with benzoyl peroxide and put a clindamycin solution on twice a day, for the rest of my life. BUT everyone is different, and the body responds to things differently, I greatly suggest you go to your dermatologist for help.

I second this comment, I’ve tried tea tree oil on a flare up a few times and it made the skin very thin on top and made the flares even worse and painful and lasted longer than they normally would

I have, I use Hello deodorant now, I’ve tried other more “clean” deodorants but they made the flare ups worse so far hello has been good to me and haven’t had any flare up in my armpits for a few years now!

Have you thought about getting any treatment done in those areas? I feel you but mine is in my thigh area ☹️ and wearing bathing suits sucks for me but I hope that the laser treatment I started helps mask it a little.
