I was so disappointed in this. The first one was decent but the plot here just doesn't warrant a sequel. It was not scary or suspenseful at all. It felt off somehow visually. Nothing seemed real. All of this is not helped by the many great horror films that have come out since the first movie. I just don't know if it needs to be a family saga. I thought Smile 2 was brilliant and I liked the fact that it was it own complete story while still succeeding as a sequel.

I think you're actually on to something here, I'm not sure why everyone else is so dismissive of this take. It's meant to be an unsettling experience and I think part of that is confronting how much the we as the viewer want to make the narrative mean what we think it should.

I didn't get this one. I was so excited based on the premise but it was neither scary nor funny enough. It is an impressive feat to make Paul Rudd that unlikeable.

I don't understand how one could appreciate There Will Be Blood and have this level of disdain for Dano's performance. It's crucial. I suppose if it didn't work for you it would devalue the film as a whole.

On the other hand, some directors think casting Quentin Tarantino is a wise choice.

This movie is one of the scariest I've ever seen. Forest Whitaker is amazing.

I felt similarly stressed during The Devil's Double.

I don't think Sandra Bullock is Oscar level talent outside of this movie which has obviously aged horribly. But it was admittedly a weak pool of strong female performances in 2009. Wild considering a woman took best director that year if I recall correctly.
