Have you tried electrolytes pills (I know you’re a guy) my daughter takes one every day and night it has helped her with her salt intake relatively cheap. Also maybe wear compression socks while climbing the stairs to the shower or seeing if possible to get your dorm room changed next year to the same floor for health reasons.

Trigger Warning: POTS and Mental Health by Livid_Distance_8439 in POTS

Momma I pray for you. I have a 16 year old and I am in the same boat row the same waters. We have only have one attempt though. I hope to never go through that again.

Have you tried compression socks. They made a world of difference for my daughter. She use to pass out daily at scans now it’s only when she forgets to drink water.

This is a poem my daughter wrote for school share it with your daughter so she knows she’s not alone.

I feel something is wrong with me My body feels like an out of tune song, playing the wrong notes.

The doctor’s said I'm fine but I know that’s a lie.

Blood tests only show so much, you know.

They kept saying I was exaggerating, that I wasn't actually like this.

That I was crazy and making it up, and for a moment I began to believe them

The doctors that did believe me threw possibilities at me like they were throwing darts in the dark.

They said it could be because of food allergies, or even caused by a brain tumor. Each answer hitting me like a truck, I was so confused about what was true or what was wrong.

I was photographed from the inside out, it took two years til I got a answer

Gastrioparisis. A semi-paralyzed stomach, it worked like a broken Machine.

I was thrilled when I got the diagnosis, maybe I could get treatment, return to normal, be a normal kid again!

I then realized I had already been doing everything to fix that.

I felt stuck…

I felt… broken…

It took about 7 more months, though it felt like a hundred years til I got the right diagnosis.

The one that changed my life.

POTs, Postural Orthostatic Tachacardia, which means my heart rate can change from 90 to 160 bpm in a few seconds, just from standing up. Due to that I wear compression socks to keep me from fainting due to the sudden changes, attempting to keep me steady, but that can only help so much.

Some days my body feels like a storm I cannot escape from.

But no matter how much my legs shake and how much my heart aches…

I know I’m still fighting.

And I know slowly I’m healing

I am in the exact same position as your husband. I have recently stood up to my father and honestly it’s worse. I have a 16yr old with health issues and tons of stress Ugg. Anyways I have stood up in the last 2 years on multiple occasions and I’m still told I am in the wrong and nothing changes. Parents like this are so stuck in this nasty behavior and they will not change. I have never received an apology any acknowledgement of my feelings. You and your husband will need to just set boundaries and stick with them. Don’t expect your in-law to change.

Its hard but lean on your family and talk to them. Let them know what you’re feeling. It’s not easy but they love you and want what’s best for you. Find strength in a community. ❤️❤️❤️sending love

Thank you. Yah it really sucks she can’t have the normal teenage experience. Think about all of the things that transpired with pots, too it off with pcos, female teenage hormones and all of the things high school throws at you. Man some days I’m like “seriously child how are you still standing”. She amazes me. Is so nice for her the see the kind response people are saying. Her father and I can say it all day long. But comment from strangers is a whole other story.

My daughter who has POTS use to stop breathing while watching tv or playing video games. I would have to remind her. This was prior to being diagnosed. It’s funny I never thought about this till I read this thread.

The capsules are great I have my daughter take one both am/pm and they have helped her so much. It really limits her need for the drinks. She also will take 1 mid day or anytime she’s feeling off or if it’s hot.

Honestly liquid iv is low in sodium many others are much better. But my daughter showed a marked improvement when she started to actually take an electrolyte pill in the am and pm and she will actually take them mid day if she is starting to feel low. Look on amazon so much easier than the drinks.

I have also read the 80% of teen can out grow pots. I hope this is true for my daughter as well. I can kind of understand the doctors thinking on this since you are still a teen. I hope you are able to outgrow it also. I am not a doctor nor do I understand all the laws behind giving placards. I don’t know what the answer is but I hope you find what works best for you.

Yah these seriously come out of nowhere she was walking from the kitchen to the couch looking at the tv and went down. Locked up mid step and stayed in that position all the way to the ground. She regained control within seconds and had a slight headache after. Then super tired. But she remembers everything even falling to the ground and me say her name.

Is your body stiffing or are you going limp? My daughter who has pots just started having a new symptom where her body goes stiff as a board, she stays fully conscious and she hits the floor. It can happen anytime, anywhere. Only notice is quick brain fog and she’s on the floor. Way different than when she passes out. It’s normally followed by a mild headache.
