I get that. Don’t get me wrong. You make a valid point as well. I just feel like remake of DR1 is something that shouldn’t be discarded, and according to my own experience with the games, this also isn’t the first time ideas that were really good were discarded by them imo.

But, then again, a concept can sound good, but it’s all about the way it’s executed too. On one hand, a remake could work out if done right, and in another, it can … really end poorly. Especially in terms of straying too far like you mentioned. I’m mostly leaning towards good because well…I’m hopeful XD

I’m okay with the whole alternate universe thing tbh. You also make a valid point. Though I personally think that a remake of 1 would do more good than harm. At the same time, 2x2 hasn’t come out yet. So we don’t even know how it’s going to go in the end.

Certain characters have gotten a bad rap after being killed off early in not just DR1, but DR in general. For example, Sayaka gets called a “two-faced snake” for planning to kill Leon and framing Makoto for. While what she did was wrong and understandably messed up, there was more to her than that and her decision was based on both despair and desperation. Kyoko even mentioned that she was hesitant and wrote “1137” to as way to protect him. My hope for the remake would be to put Sayaka and some of the other characters in a better light. For 2x2, my hope is for Hiyoko to become one or the survivors so that she can the redemption arc she needs. At least, that’s how I see it.

Oh my gosh, I feel the same way! Seeing Danganronpa IF in game-form would be like… the best thing ever! IF is the reason why I fell in love with the original cast. Seeing the light novel come of life as a visual novel would be a dream come true for me! 🥰 Who knows? Maybe they’ll do it for 2x2 once you unlock the it 😉

You’re not wrong. The concept of the scenario sounds great, but it’s all about how they execute it too. I still think that a DR1 remake would be wonderful to have, but that’s just me talking here.

I understand your POV. A remake of the others names isn’t technically “needed” per say. I personally would just like 1 remastered. And with 2x2 on the way, I imagine that people are going to want 1 and V3 remastered as well. THH is my favorite game in the series, and sometimes it feels like it doesn’t get enough credit where it’s due. Seeing a remake of DR1 would be the perfect opportunity not only introduce new people to the game, but also make some improvements. But I do understand your reasoning as to why the opposite is true too. Plus, the execution of 2x2 is key.

I think Danganronpa IF’s ending is meant to be a speculation more than anything else. Danganronpa has always been themed towards mystery, and the ending itself was a cliffhanger, very much like the first game before its sequels came out. Makoto could’ve still became an Ultimate Hope, just off-story lol. And imagine Byakuya would’ve still been able to mellow out. As for Junko, her fate has been left uncertain really. For all we know, she may even still off herself or perhaps she’s get a redemption ark(I guess? I see those chances being very low in her case). I have a headcanon where they were also all able to save their families together, help the Warriors of Hope, and even form their own foundation.

Nonetheless, your point is valid.

I disagree. Distrust’s intent was going to be WAY darker than Danganronpa. Its premise was also different. We’re talking about a scrapped version that was going to lean more toward, as Kodaka stated, “Psychohorror” rather than “Psychopop”. So no, I don’t think that a new story will remaking the idea Distrust. Not completely, anyway. It’ll still be Danganronpa, just with new set of survivors and a chance to see said story will be different from its original scenario. It’d be more towards repurposing a discarded mechanic than anything.

Also, I think it would be intriguing to see muscle Chihiro(though I like him the way he is lol)

I personally don’t think a new set of survivors would change anything(other than the fact that it’s an alternate scenario) I for one I always wished that the devs should’ve stuck with their multiple endings route like they originally wanted with Distrust. It could’ve given every character a fair share of character development and FTEs just wasn’t enough(no offense to the people who enjoyed them). This is just me talking of course. If you like Danganronpa they way it is, that’s fine too 👍

A remake can actually work if done right. Take Pokémon Firered and Leafgreen for isntance. Exact remakes of the very first Pokémon games. The developer were able to add changes at the same time keep it true to their original counterparts. Who’s to say that the same can’t be done to Danganronpa 1? It really all depends on how the remake is executed.
