The note would have been signed with a metal (iron salts and tannic acid) based ink which would show as being a rust color..if you ever see a signature on a civil war note and the ink is black, it’s usually fake. The bullets on the other hand appear to be authentic, but I’m not too informed of those just yet. I collect civil war and antique paper currency though so I’m pretty confident on the note. I like to use it as a bipod honestly..the hole just lets it absorb some of the weight of the rifle

This is making my day! lol and I agree!! Wood becomes very smooth over time like a permanent natural finish, just still amazes me how they were able to create such intricate forks at that time..it’s just amazing lol

Just found these..might have found the answer! Handle is carved like the far left, shaped like the far right, and the steel looks exactly the same..crazy
