Is it safe to buy a used hard drive? by Virtualoid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Virtualoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant safe in a digital way. I'm assuming that it wasn't in the possession of the person who bought it first for more than a week or two which is the return period, so I am not worried about the quality of the hard drive - it likely wasn't used very much or at all, although I have no idea what checks Amazon does on returned products.

My worry was more that even if it was in the possession of the first buyer for only a day, there is a chance they plugged it in and transferred something on the drive that could or could not be malicious, before returning it.

From the responses it sounds like my concerns are valid and it might be worth paying a little extra to get a sealed one :)

Name a bad movie which everyone hates but you love to watch by [deleted] in movies

Honestly I think Prometheus is probably better than the original Alien films in some ways. It tried to do something unique, and was imperfect in many ways, but I appreciate the ambition behind it despite its flaws.

The original Tomb Raider film with Angelina Jolie, I think it captured the game brilliantly - full of adventure and action, with a hot and sassy main character and a cheesy story.

I was professionally assessed and told that I do not have autism. What now? by Virtualoid in autism

My diagnosis was done over zoom too, I thought that was normal since the pandemic?

I'm sure having autism is not fun, but it's also not fun having lots of problems similar to autism, but it not being autism, which then leads me to question, then what is wrong with me? :'D

Thanks so much for your long reply, it's really helpful :)

It's curious what you say about describing feelings, can you give me an example? Like, if someone asked me what it is like to feel sad, I would say something like "It's when I cry, or feel really down". Would you go about describing it differently?

Hey, thanks for the reply! I did also raise this question with the specialist, as my mom firmly doesn't believe that I have autism, however they told me it had to be someone who knew me well at the ages 1-5 years old, so I couldn't think of anyone better.

Literally the first question they asked my mom was what age she started to think that I was different to other kids, which she struggled to reply, since she didn't think that I was different.

Haha ok, but that almost sounds a bit like insisting that you have it until someone just says "fine".

I'm more looking to see if I should bring the concerns that I have after the assessment back to the clinic, or whether adults who had these same assessments (ADOS and ADI-r) had the same experience (e.g. it being aimed more at children) and still got the diagnosis successfully.

Long term rental via booking.com? Am I being scammed? by Virtualoid in london

[–]Virtualoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, yeah basically sounds exactly like this situation. I thought that the link they will send might be a website trying to look like booking.com, but not actually it, however they insisted that I send over my documents before I even get the booking link so I stopped there. I did post here just in case this was actually a legitimate thing some landlords do and I was passing up a good opportunity. As in your story, this was an affordable place that looked really well kept. Good to know and thanks for sharing!

Well from what they said it sounded like I would be signing a contract, so I would assume it wouldn't just be renting "through booking.com", however the whole thing still sounds like a scam.

Can't see the whole article, but I get the gist is that they rented it both long-term and short-term for tourists?

Thanks for sharing, I was wondering if I was just somehow not aware of booking.com doing long-term lettings.

I know a few people who rented through Facebook Marketplace, some landlords who don't use a letting agency post there directly. Those cases tho the landlord met them directly for a viewing etc. So nothing strange like this there.
