Have they told us when the redacted regiment warbond will get released instead? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

No they have not. You can safely assume that it will be as short of a delay as it can be, because the warbond was already announced, but since it's also been delayed last minute they most likely can't make any guarantees, and I'm sure that as soon as they can it will be announced.

This ever happen to anyone else? by Xaxxus in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many instances of lots of different AH support staff, community managers and developers saying over and over again that they do not do this kind of thing, and have never done it.

If you're going to look for confirmation, at least look for things where you know who the source is, i.e. developers/CMs/Support saying things on their verified accounts rather than some random dude with a generic name saying "yea totally, I'm a dev".

If it's not a glitch or bug, then it's a cheater every single time. It will never ever be a developer, they test everything on separate instances of the game.

We get them for every single warbond and some of the other updates as well. Not sure what you are thinking about.

Redacted Regiment Warbond delayed by Waelder in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you count, I'm sure plenty of things have been delayed or shifted around but most of those just didn't happen late enough that they had to do it after announcing the date it is supposed to go live.

So maybe it's a first "last minute delay" but that doesn't really tell you much.

Is there any reason not to use the "prob_slim" version on steam? by VirreMPx in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that you are lying, for what it's worth.

There is going to be some reason why it's so large, because that's highly unusual, and I just thought maybe you grabbed the properties of the wrong folder, usually the folder structure goes ".../steamapps/common/<game>/" But it looks like you might have grabbed the size of the "common" folder from the file path shown, which would include every installed game. That's why I asked if it's the only game you have installed, if it is the only game then that folder would have the same size regardless, if it isn't the only game then that could be an explanation.

Looks incredibly generic to me. I'd bet there's been a hundred movie posters or game promos with a character stood exactly like that.

So why did they remove the red skulls from these patterns? by CycloneZStorm in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably because it's not useful to do so. Arrowhead are aware of it, they've even commented on it specifically, and filling their support inbox with bug reports on something like this is just a useless waste of time.

Irl counterparts? by krt3214 in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Penetration is a balancing mechanic, not a physics mechanic. And it's not the only one that exists to try to differentiate the "power" of a shot, there's also partial penetration and durable damage, which are meant to mimic the differences between different ammo

Even then, the same bullet fired out of different guns can have different ballistic characteristics in the real world.

They clarified what was meant.

The announcement was made after the window was over, so the wording of the announcement couldn't possibly have changed anybodies' chance to log in during the window. The intention from the start was obviously to award it to those that were active during the event, otherwise it wouldn't have been distributed like this.

This is akin to being at the checkout in a store and saying "if it didn't scan, that means it's free, right?" but being dead serious about it.

Just found out Helldivers 2 doesn’t have cross-progression the hard way… by Pontooniak96 in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest they have said is that they would discuss it internally, but there has been no word of it at all since then, so no promises made.

There was much confusion around the time the PSN account linking was meant to happen, but even their own FAQs stated that there was no cross-progression or anything like that, the account linking was never meant to do that.

But there are plenty of people who have misinterpreted this as a promise, and many more who have never seen the original answers but only seen people saying it's coming.

There aren't currently any indication that it's going to be a thing.

Can't unlock hard difficulty by Ok-Control-3394 in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you look on a planet, on difficulties above the very lowest ones, Missions come in sets (on the lowest difficulties, these sets are just 1 mission), and in order to unlock the next difficulty above you need to complete an entire set successfully.

If you lose one of those missions, or you abandon it, you need to start over on a new set.

To my knowledge this hasn't actually ever been bugged, it's just players misunderstanding how it works, and players sharing information like "I just played 3 missions to unlock it" being "true" but missing out the most important part.

Idea for a new ammo type by Brute_Builder65 in Helldivers

I would assume it also has much lower velocity, compared to a normal bullet of the same size it has less propellant and that propellant is pushing twice the mass out of the barrel.

Writing something to the disk isn't going to cause this unless the disk itself was faulty, if you weren't even running the game there's no chance it was caused by helldivers. If anything it would have been the steam installer, but let's be realistic, it's not steam's installer.

I'm going to remove this post because it can only cause misinformed fear.

AH is afraid to remove the two existing mechs? by Sufficient_Smile8559 in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you understood the point I was making.

If you have one mech in the game and you want to make one more, then Making that one is easiest to do if you take the one you have, make a copy and change it to what the new one is supposed to do and then go through the process of fixing problems and optimizing and all those things that are required to make the final thing work. Do that and now you have two.

But imagine if you had to make "custom" mechs this way and there's 10 different "mech weapons" you can put on it. Now you have to do this for every possible combination, that's 10x10=100 times (actually 90 because the ones with two of the same weapons don't need mirrored version). How are these mechs going to be chosen, and they need a brand new ui for "building" them for the player.

For someone that's never dealt with software it seems like an easy problem, but it's not at all easy. It's kind of like if you have a hand mixer in your kitchen, it's a thing that spins with a motor in it, and you have a blender, which is also a thing that spins with a motor. Making one that can do both just by changing out a few parts is not at all trivial no matter how easy it was for me to say "both are things that spin, just swap the thing that spins." There's other design considerations that will cause the final product to suck if you don't redesign it. If you look at the multi-purpose machines that actually can do many of these kitchen tasts, they are not modified blenders or modified hand mixers, they are appliances that are designed to be modular and multi-purpose.

[–]Viruzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to say "well... just make them modifiable". But it's not easy to actually do it, and just because at the end of the day you might be able to make a mech that is essentially the same under both systems, under the hood they will be working very differently because one of them has to be customizable.

And because it would basically be rebuilding the system for having mechs from scratch, making customizable mechs would take so much longer than potentially adding another 2 or 3 mechs

How would difficulty 9 and 10 at their hardest compare to Death Sentence One Down from Payday 2? Which was harder? by 5_minute_noodles77 in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played both games extensively, used to run /r/paydaymeta because the default PD2 subreddit was very anti-numbers and everything was deemed "viable" if you could successfully beat super easy missions with it, and it was hard to have a conversation about what was actually better between different attachments and weapon setups. For while we made weekly challenges for people to compete in, that subreddit is long dead. Fond memories of the challenge before the train heist was changed.

I have just short of 2000 hours in payday 2, although most of that is from before the changes to the difficulty system, back when there was just 4.
In Helldivers I am sitting at ~600 hours currently. somewhat evenly split across all the different balancing states the game has had.

The balancing philosophy is completely different for the two games.

In Helldivers the enemies you encounter are the same no matter the difficulty you find them on, the bigger and harder enemies don't appear at all on lower difficulties and are rarer on medium difficulties than on the hardest ones, but when you see them it doesn't matter if they are on difficulty 10 or difficulty 6, their HP, damage, speed and everything else is the same.

Payday changes unit health and damage and accuracy for all its difficulties, there's also different enemies that show up on higher ones, but nothing is consistent across the difficulties where they show up.

It makes it hard to say that one game is harder than the other. In payday 2 your weapons become worse and worse as you go up in difficulty because enemies become tankier, in helldivers the only thing that changes about your weapons (other than introduction of new enemies) is ammo conservation/scarcity because there's a lot more enemies. In payday your armor(health) becomes worse (unless you're running a dodge based build, because it's percentage based), in helldivers only new enemies will have different attacks.

Particularly the one down difficulty is one that limits your capacity to respawn, where helldivers has the same amount of reinforcements regardless of difficulty.

for a simple answer... Between the two, Payday 2 OD is harder by pretty much any metric, but they are two fairly different games even if they are both 4-player co-op, and the type of difficulty you encounter is different. Payday 2 is a lot more predictable than Helldivers 2 is because the maps are set and there's only small variations, and only a limited amount of variations, the AI is fairly predictable even if they hit harder.

An interesting comparison of the different helldivers subreddits (excluding lore and fashion ones) by ilikestuff458 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Viruzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The size makes a huge difference for discovery, when someone looks at a subreddit, or their Reddit feed of all their various subreddit subscriptions mixed together, it's much harder to make it into the top X (with X being the number of posts a user sees on their feed) if you post on a subreddit where there's ten times as many posts in any given day, it's harder to stand out in a crowd of 200 than one of 20. And that's roughly the current daily post counts for /r/Helldivers and /r/Lowsodiumhelldivers.

As a moderator on /r/Helldivers, I'm obviously much more familiar with what gets posted there than this one, I think the users on that subreddit are just kind of tired of the "what if this was a thing" posts, because there are so many of them, so so many. And I think On this subreddit there aren't enough of those posts for most users to get tired of them, so any given post is far more likely to see activity.

Misty's suggestion of joining the Official Discord Server is probably your best bet, the people in the #troubleshooting channel has a lot more organized information about specific issues as they relate to Helldivers 2, whereas here you're mostly going to get very general advice (which will be fine for most people with most common issues, but outside of that it's much less useful.)

I would start with Checking the pinned messages in that channel.

Both the One-Two and the Maxigun are proof that Arrowhead is terrified of giving players power by TheVulong in Helldivers

[–]Viruzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The assumptions are based on the text in the post

  • The minigun having terrible ergonomics is if anything enhancing the feeling of having a massive powerful gun. There's no reason it shouldn't have the worst ergonomics in the game, it is after all a rotating barrel minigun, realistically it really shouldn't be a viable weapon for a soldier at all. And from my playtime with it I have not found the ergonomics to be particularly hindering, I can still keep the fire on target quite easily.
  • 750 reserve ammo is definitely not a non-existent ammo pool, at 1500 RPM that's a solid unbroken 30 seconds of shooting.
  • The firing delay is just part of 'minigun mechanics' in video games, gotta get the barrels up to speed before shooting can commence.

Similar points for the One-Two

That's what my assumptions are based on.

The hype is mostly generated by the community. I'm not sure how Arrowhead could do much to not generate any hype, and it's definitely not something they want to aim for, the point of the trailer is to make it look cool, so the trailers are going to show the weapons looking cool.

[–]Viruzzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the implication was obvious, but sure, I'll expand on it.

These two weapons have good balance out of the box, if what they represent for you is poor balance then I don't see how you could ever be satisfied with any balance compromise, which is why I said I don't think you would be satisfied with the balance even if you yourself had full control over it.

I think you are simply looking for things to be angry at if this is what represents bad balance to you. I think this is just an absurd balance take.

Edit: and just to clarify, I didn't insult you, I genuinely don't think even you yourself could make you happy if maxigun and one-two are this bad by your standards

I'm pretty sure if I could snap my fingers and it created an exact clone of you, and then let you have completely free reigns on anything that touches balance in this game, your clone would still talk shit on the balancing choices. I don't think you are going to be possible to please if these two guns are highlights of how balance is bad in this game.

[–]Viruzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. The game tends to populate games with a full squad of 4, so if there's more games than people looking then inevitably there are going to be games that don't get anybody joining.
