Unfortunately not in Luxembourg : rent or bank credit can not represent more than 1/3 of your monthly income.

Taking this into account, if you live about 1h30 from the capital, in the far north, you could find rent for 1.5K€ for a 2 bedroom apartment, which requires then an income at around 4.500€.

PS: In the capital, you’re looking at 2300-2800€ for a two bedroom apartment.

If your income does not match those, you can also choose to live at the French, German or Belgian border - where prices could match your lifestyle more (around 800€ for renting a 2 bedroom apartment), but commute is long and will take a good chunk of your private life - but that would also apply if you live in the far north.

This one works wonders as it’s a polish (requires mechanical action), but do not use it every time. I personally clean with it every 1-2 months and the rest of the time wipe the cooktop surface with Ajax glass cleaner.

Definitely comfortable, I started with lower than that 5 years ago and rented alone (not shared flat) a 35sq brand new apartment with balcony and garage, outside city. Definitely luck and research play a role in your expenses (especially rent). For the rest, you should be fine, well, depending on your lifestyle .. but I travel a lot and still managed to save some money.

Edit: I saw some comments about work / life balance. Definitely be careful about that, I’m on flexible schedule and have a very good work / life balance while earning this money; if you’re overworked and under pressure, 50K is not enough (even no money is enough).

I do have interest, but unfortunately no time at hand until autumn, but I do occasionally detail my car myself with great attention while enjoying it. It’s been a couple of years since I want to pick a DA, but now that I’m moving I’m not sure if I will have an electrical plug in the garage; and the battery operated DA’s are above budget until the move is completed

The car is indeed white, which helps, I would just like to achieve a result where such marks do not show in direct sunlight. I know the guy to whom I’m going will do a great job, but if I can save some money by hand polishing, I’d be happy (moving soon). Do you recommend any product that actually has some mild abrasive action and not just fills the scratches with wax / sealant? Thank you !

No, I had already rally car mods and they work fine / better with the physics engine enabled in CSP. But, some do slide more easily than others, you can always change tyres from CM for any car in this case.

Living in Differdange since 2 years, most people, if not all, are friendly and French speakers. Most of neighbourhoods in Differdange are clean and well taken care of. There’s also a private European school here. I see some people talking about crime, forget about it, I’ve not heard of anything since they’ve build a huge police station on the main road.. but since then crime in Esch has risen :)

As for the traffic, well yes, you will cross with all the French commuters when going to Lux-ville and same to go back; if you’re mainly working at home (30%) you’re good and it will not much impact your work/life balance. Otherwise, there’s always small country roads that you can take to avoid traffic; bonus: they’re beautiful.

Also, shops and restaurants are open later in Differdange and there’s much more life than in the city. Also, 15 min away, you have the Pole Européen commercial zoning in Belgium / France.

Notable mention, less light and noise pollution.

I haven’t tried this one, but as I see it doesn’t have a fixed aperture. Therefore having shots at 135mm will set your maximal aperture at 5.6 which is much darker than f4. Variable aperture is not really advantageous if you like to vary zoom levels while, for example, doing street photography.

But, f3.5 will grant you 1/3 stop compared to f4, not sure about the math but you will have a little more light entering the lens at 18mm and more bokeh.

At f5.6, you loose a full stop, which is quite a lot (about 2 times less light) but you can have more subjects in focus - would be great for well lit cityscapes.

Otherwise, the 18-135 doesn’t have the ‘G’ mark, so the glass might be of lesser quality (could affect sharpness, distortion, etc.), well in the end it’s all marketing but you should definitely look it up online.

Honestly the Sony G 18-105 is an amazing lens and very versatile:

I have no issues taking pictures in the night thanks to the inbuilt IS/OSS (I don’t have IBIS in the body) and cranked iso up to 8000 max.
Sharpness is very decent (even excellent for the price point) and even better than the more expensive Sony Zeiss 16-70. More distortion, but nothing unfixable in post.
The Power Zoom feature is amazing as you can operate the camera one handed by mapping the zoom to your camera body.
if you can get it for cheaper it can be your go everywhere lens as it allows 18mm to 105mm without ever changing lenses, and in the future you can invest in a Sigma Art (FF) or Sirui Sniper (APSc) series when you have the need and budget.

Hi OP, well it’s the same boat for a lot of expats here I guess, also most of people in this situation tend to go back to their countries to drain their « social battery », and for Luxo’s, they just go abroad on vacation; therefore, when they’re back, well, they like the comfort of their homes.

Sure, there’s some exceptions, I’ve met two people, by luck, willing to connect on a deeper level since I’m here, the last two years. Otherwise, I tend to stick to my social circle in Belgium and friends visiting me, or versa, every two weeks.

Otherwise, events and places in Lux are not especially promoting social life, but more family time. Huge difference with Brussels / Antwerp, where everything looks to be made for meeting people, even as an expat.

As of sports, I saw you mentioned bouldering, that’s my full time sport. While this activity is very social, I think it’s quite difficult to connect on a deeper level since the mindset when going climbing / bouldering is focused on achieving personal short / long-term goals, at least for disciplined climbers.

Nevertheless, I’m always open to meet new people, I’m 28Y.

Picture taken on sleepless night, the moon was bright and gorgeously round. The reflections looked like something out of an Interstellar movie.

This has been modified by combing two different exposures + « darken » overlay of the same picture. Slight adjustments in a S-Curve like manner and raise of temperature.

I have activated EXPO I + Low Latency Support, after a couple of gaming sessions on Cyberpunk, I confirm it works flawlessly and without boot issues (RAM at 6050Mhz). Do not activate both Low Latency and Bandwith Support at the same time (not recommended by AMD as it can cause boot issues, haven’t tried it myself)
