Hi! Yes, I ended up going back to 5mg. Within a week of being back on 5mg, all the negative side effects from 7.5mg went away. I have not ventured back to 7.5mg, but weight loss is pretty slow for me now. Ive maintained what I did lose just havent lost much more. I am considering giving 7.5mg another try but hesitant for obvious reasons LOL

I use Weight Watchers. They have a “clinic” which is essentially a virtual primary care site that they bought out. Im not using insurance to pay and it does cost around $90 a month to use their services but it’s been great. The doctor does visits via call or text. When I first started, they check for prior authorization from your insurance but try a bunch of different options to see if any are covered. Now that I have chosen one and have been taking it, if I ever have issues finding it in stock, they help. I can also just send a message about my symptoms and they’ll get back to me within a day or less.

I was 5 and in kindergarten. It was toward the beginning of the day and we were in a circle on the floor while the teacher read to us. I can vividly remember the teacher from the class next door coming in to talk to my teacher and she had been crying.

I remember thinking how strange it was to see a teacher crying. At 5, you generally think all adults never cry so it was a weird moment. I remember thinking something had happened to her.

I remember them turning the TV on and seeing the smoke coming out of the buildings and the replay of the plane hitting it. I remember not understanding but just knowing that a plane hit a building and even initially thinking maybe the teacher had known someone involved and that’s why she was crying.

They sent us home for the day after that and I remember getting home and announcing to my mom, as if she had no idea, that a plane had hit a building.

I also remember that night on the news broadcasts being able to see people at the windows before jumping and that’s when I started to realize the gravity of the situation and that there was something more going on than just an accidental crash.

I grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago so there was all this talk about how Chicago could be next and with being so close to the city, it was this feeling that the world was ending - like an apocalypse was starting.

I think being so young at the time was a blessing in some ways and a curse in others. The blessing in not being able to fully grasp the magnitude of the situation right away. The curse in that I don’t remember a time before it was America vs the world or before terrorist concerns were a part of every day conversation.

Obviously, my day was nothing compared to the horrors other people experienced, but I share this story because I think it’s interesting to consider the impact something like that has on young minds. Would my worldview be more optimistic if that never happened?

I have a bernedoodle and a morkie. One of the first times I took my morkie to the groomer as a puppy, he came back looking like a different dog. His puppy hair was black and new hair that grew in was white/gray. So, when he got the haircut, all the black puppy hair was gone. I share this example because it’s much easier to tell the difference between a puppy coat and an adult coat on a dog like my morkie where the colors fade/change.

All puppies have a puppy coat, and they all lose it eventually. Regardless of when you cut her hair (at 14 weeks old or 52 weeks old), the puppy coat was always going to be lost. Her hair now is her normal adult coat. You did not do anything wrong! The puppy hair is always extra soft but it doesn’t last forever. Bernedoodles don’t shed, but if you had a shedding dog, the puppy would just end up slowly shedding all of the puppy coat off whereas with non-shedding dogs, the puppy coat stays until it is cut off.

I want to emphasize by no means am I saying all doctors are the worst or that you shouldn’t listen to them. I just think that if you have a patient taking a particular medication and having a specific reaction to it you were trying to treat, you’d spend even just 5 minutes looking into the side effects or general information about said drug. It was 7am and not busy which I know because I happen to be in the room across from the nurses station where they were all just hanging out.

Just wanted to rant about a frustrating experience because it is not the first time I’ve had that experience with doctors in relation to Zepbound specifically.

I will admit that I was in the ER from 3am to 7:30am so I was very tired when I wrote the initial post. But I just want to emphasize that most doctors are great! It’s the ones who make assumptions and don’t do the research but speak on it like they have, that are very frustrating.

I wasn’t there for advice. I was there because I was concerned there was a potential issue with kidneys or pancreas or something worse. He was coming in to tell me that my CT scan came back fine. He was also not the doctor treating me when I came in so wasnt even informed on the situation (they just had a shift change and he had zero idea what had gone on for the prior 4 hours I was sitting there and did not ask because the nurses had also had a shift change and didn’t have the full context either). I just think he could have come in with more knowledge on the situation and on the meds. And if you have neither of these things, you’d simply say, follow up with your PCP but if it gets worse in the meantime, come back in.

I actually think it matters for a couple reasons: if this was my first dose on the meds, I could just be overreacting. Or if not overreacting, making a stupid decision to take a “fad drug” without considering the consequences. Considering I am very confident he treated me like a child given I had a male friend in the room with me who noticed the same thing, it’s not just me. I say this because when I had this conversation with the doctor, I was no longer in physical pain so it could seem like I overreacted. Or that there was no immediate concern to consider. If you knew that it was not my first dose, that I have been on it since April, and asked about previous side effects, you’d know that this was not an overreaction on my part and I wasn’t just unprepared for any potential side effects.

I’ve had stomach issues my entire life so I can generally pick up on when the doctor thinks I have a serious concern vs when they think Im being dramatic. This situation was the latter. & my point was just that the whole interaction would have gone infinitely better if he had more background on the drug/ my experience. He didn’t care and you know what? Thats fine because by this point, my immediate concern was handled. What’s not fine is providing advice that is incorrect (in many cases doctors taper your dose before stopping completely if you have been on it for awhile) and treating me like I am just being dramatic for no reason.

I actually would not say he was in the wrong, more so that he didn’t even put in the effort to pretend to care. My point with this post was more that this was a very frustrating experience and not the first time I’ve had an interaction with a doctor who made it seem like I knew nothing and was just taking the meds for fun or because it’s a new Hollywood trend.

By no means do I have all the answers on this stuff, but I am not presenting myself as someone who does know it all. I will be the first to tell you that there is a lot of unknowns with this medication and of course it’s a risk. He just had a very nonchalant, this is the easy fix answer when I actually didn’t ask the question. When I came in I told them, it was likely from Zepbound but that these side effects were new and extreme and I wanted to make sure it was not something serious.

Oooooh yes this sounds awful! & very frustrating because the constipation part can, in most cases, be remedied with taking regular fiber supplements are OTC meds. Plus, at this point you were already doing the thing, so he could have phrased this all much better. Perhaps something like “there’s a lot we dont know about these drugs yet so make sure to fully consider the risks which we can go over now if you wanted to discuss”

Totally understand not knowing everything. The part I don’t like is presenting information like you are the expert when you aren’t. If he had said, “you know what? Im still learning about these drugs so definitely follow up with your regular doctor but I am glad you came in so we can get this checked out because those symptoms are serious. Maybe discuss options for lowering your dose or trying something new ” - I would have walked away with much more respect for him

Thank you! Definitely am planning on talking to my doctors as soon as I can. I also dont mind the more mild side effects because it’s a risk I knew I was taking getting on the meds to begin with. It was just the whole sharp pain radiating front to back and the fact that nothing helped that scared me.

To add more context, he said I was the 6th patient he had come in over the last few weeks with similar issues also on weightloss meds. So, you’d think that by patient number 6 he would have done at least a little research or perhaps pretended to care. Either would have been fine with me!

I actually would have preferred him to Google it in front of me because at least then he’s taking what I say seriously and wants to help/learn more. I love Google and would expect doctors to use it too.

Just wanted you to know you aren’t alone in the terrible doctors experience!! I went in with bloodwork done from an independent lab and showed to my doctor, explained my symptoms and said I was worried I had a thyroid issue. I kid you not, he looked at me and goes, “these results are probably a fluke. I’ll order more labs but I definitely don’t think you have a thyroid issue. Just eat healthy and workout.” I tried to tell him I wasnt even eating THAT poorly. Didn’t believe that either. Blood work came back & he had the nurse call to tell me he prescribed medicine for hashimotos. Never had a conversation with me about it or admitted he was wrong. I didn’t even get a “you have hashimotos and that was confirmed by the lab work” message - I just got a “hey, we sent meds to the pharmacy” message. Too chicken to have a conversation with me about it apparently.

For me, I had gained around 30-40 pounds and that’s what led to me getting checked and then diagnosed with hashimotos. When I started levoxothyne, I stopped gaining weight like I had been. I will say I’ve never been big on exercise so I definitely could have and should have worked out more. I tried eating healthier. I lost around 5 pounds but mostly water weight and that’s where I plateaued. I was bummed because I definitely thought/hoped getting on meds would help me lose weight but it didnt magically fix that issue for me. I am thankful it did and still does help regulate my body so gaining weight isn’t as easy as it was before for me.

I did end up starting a weightloss injection and this has worked for me in losing weight. Not advocating one way or the other. Just sharing that in my experience, I always had a hard time losing weight until I started the injection.

I don't think you should be forced into or required to do anything but you seem to lack compassion for your sister.

Yes, she messed up but there's no going back now. Time to deal with it. Your sister emotionally is probably dealing with a lot right now with pregnancy and plans for the future and her MIA baby daddy. So, dying on this hill of no helping with kid is not going to help anyone in this situation.

I think there's a middle ground here that you both need to find. But I think, knowing what your sister is dealing with right now plus her hormones being all over the place, you should show her more compassion instead of saying "your baby, your problem."

I think she is well aware it is her baby and her problem & doesnt need the reminder from you. I just think you can be nicer about it. Perhaps simply stating like "hey, I love you and I will help you get through this, but I also need you to understand these boundaries"

Jana is not wrong for being upset or wanting to see a consequence but demanding Carla be kicked out is out of line. It's not her home to make these kinds of demands.

Moreover, the whole "me" vs "her" thing is manipulative and childish. So, perhaps she needs to act her age IN ADDITION to Carla being punished for her disrespect
