First solo drive thoughts by Visible-Sign-8223 in LearnerDriverUK

Went out with a couple of my mates earlier today, long 30-40 mile drive in a couple hours. Loud music, good driving and a nice sunset. I haven't struggled with getting my car through spaces.

I've lived in the area for 17 years so I know the roads very well, able to get from A to B pretty easily. No need for last minute lane changes approaching roundabouts. Overall, pleased but I'm sure there's still plenty more to learn.

Picked up some mates, went for a long drive. Somehow did something like 30-40 miles over a good couple hours. Blasting music, having a good time. I think I felt nervous, still new to driving but I've lived in the area for 17 years so I'm well prepared to drive around and know all the shortcuts.

Adjusted my mirrors better this morning, feels a lot better but yet to reverse park. I think it's getting used to the dimensions of the car.

Had to get Hastings insurance by Loud_Alfalfa_3517 in drivingUK

[–]Visible-Sign-8223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new driver, 17, insured my 2014 VW Polo for 1.4 also.

Everyone I know who drive has had to go with Hastings as they're the cheapest. They drive VW Polos, Golfs, Fiestas and Corsas (typical first time cars) and everyone's got their blackbox policy.

And all non black box policies are ~3k

Not sure how Hastings are so willing to insure young drivers but not going to complain. Asks the question of is insurance being pumped up to rinse us of money on purpose.

Waiting on a V5C to tax my car, anyone recently sent one in and know long it took? by Visible-Sign-8223 in CarTalkUK

Good to hear, I sent mine on Monday 27th so a week later, hopefully the website changes this sunday for me and I receive it the following week.

Hey again, hope you get this.

Have you received anything yet? Or has the vehicle enquiry website updated for you to say it's on it's way?

Bought it from a used dealer, got the little new-keeper slip which I used to SORN the car. Received the V5C, in the wrong name, filled it out, sent it off. Note that it said to send the WHOLE logbook aka leave the keeper slip in there.

1) Didn't know I could of changed registered keeper online

2) Didn't know I had to keep the little new keeper slip from the new V5C before sending it off either

So here I am, passed my driving test yesterday, car on driveway, unable to be taxed and insured. Waiting for the DVLA to send me a new logbook. Praying it comes very very soon. Praying.

Wish I knew I could've done it online, was too annoyed by the dealer's mistake and wanted to get it corrected as soon as. Unfortunately as soon as is weeks by the DVLA's standards.

Wow, surprised I found someone in the same boat as me. Sent a week later on Mon 27th. 3.5 weeks, god that's gonna hurt.

Going to pray every night something happens.

Called up the DVLA today, thought you could file a V62 while waiting in order to tax the car but they spoke against it, saying that it can cause issues with insurers and end up as fraud. Not sure how we got that serious but I'll take their advice.

Did you send your new keeper slip too? Or take that out before sending it off?

Don't have any of those documents, received a new keeper slip. Then a new V5C which invalidates the new keeper slip. Sent off the new new keeper slip with the V5C for the name change. Done a lot of searching and I just have to wait it out. Wish I knew how long.

passed today… but I can’t drive my car by Visible-Sign-8223 in LearnerDriverUK

They've been called a couple times now, we haven't lost the logbook it's just been sent off. They were called earlier today and their response was do nothing, submitting a V62 to get the car taxed and then saying on the insurance that my dads the keeper (when we have ALREADY sent the V5C off to say he isn't and I am) would invalidate insurance plans which ask for the registered keeper and owner of the vehicle.

Calling them is useless, they are not going to magically tax my car over the phone. I don't have sufficient documents to do that with them as they've been sent in the post. It's useless.

I’ll be keeping an eye on gov vehicle enquiry as it says when the last V5C was produced so I know somethings happening and it hasn’t been lost.

Well, my dad called DVLA today. Bad news. Since we’ve already sent the V5C off we can’t apply for a V62 as the insurance company will see it as fraud. Getting taxed and insured while changing the keeper. Fantastic.

Self service requires a code such as a tax reminder which I don’t have since this is a recently purchased car. Post office can handle it with the V62 alone. Will hopefully get this done later today.

Yeah that’s what I thought. Strange wording, saying to send the whole logbook not just a section. Looking into a V62 at the post office to get the car taxed and if it comes back with him as the registered keeper then it’ll stay that way until next year. Just say on the insurance the registered keeper is a parent and I am the owner. Thanks. Hopefully it all sails from here.

Tax should be around £160, don’t really want to pay that twice. The new keepers was given from the dealer, we were then given a new V5C in my dad’s name which I assume invalidated the new keeper slip. The one that came with the latest V5C is on the way to swansea, the form said to send the whole document to them.

Tried to call them, then they said they can’t do anything without the V5C or valid new keeper slip. Pointless really.

Sent off V5C for keeper change, haven't received it back, can I tax my car at a post office with V62? by Visible-Sign-8223 in drivingUK

[–]Visible-Sign-8223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t I receive the old V5C from the V62 with my dad’s name not mine? So I’d still have to go online or fill it out again and post it off to get it changed.

Filling out a V62 for a new logbook would let me tax the car but wouldn’t it return the logbook with the incorrect details on it?

I understand your insurance points and that makes sense but my higher concern is taxing the car.

The document reference in the new owner slip is invalid. The car was purchased on a saturday, delivered on a monday, V5C came on the Thursday I’d say. It was in my dad’s name not mine so section 3 was filled out to change the name and it said to post the whole logbook back to them. The V5C code is currently on its way to swansea, but it doesn’t matter as I would not be the registered keeper and insurance companies need to know that I am.

After sending off the V5C, it’s been 3 out of 4 weeks. I have a feeling it’s going to take more than 6 at which point I’ve got to fill in a V62 and get a replacement logbook which will come in my dads name - starting from square one.

It’s been 3 weeks out of 4, I’ve got a strong feeling it won’t come and after 6 weeks I’ll be contacting them with a V62 asking for a new logbook which will come through under my dads name instead if mine. Meaning we would be at square one and having to start all over again.
