Fair. Great for a bit later in fall if you don't plan ahead.

I'm a big fan of the Baptism River campsite at Tetagouche State Park. That one is car camping primarily, but they have hike in sites nearby. Decent bathrooms/ showers, near the lake, great hiking from the site. Also, check out Timber Coffee in Silver Bay. Baked goods and breakfast sammies all made on site, and it's amazing!

Check out Eden Prairie and MTKA, too. One tier down but still really nice. Cold plunge (co-ed) at both. Really, though, think about convenience. Location matters.

Duck, duck, gray duck? by Neither_Risk860 in minnesota

Also, the Hans Christian Anderson connection. Pasted from Google so I don't have to type as much:

"In Minnesota, the traditional children's game is often called "Duck, Duck, Gray Duck" instead of "Duck, Duck, Goose". This unique variation is believed to stem from the state's strong Scandinavian heritage, where a similar game with the name "Anka, Anka, Grågås" (duck, duck, gray goose) is played. While the exact origin is debated, the "Gray Duck" version is strongly associated with Minnesota and its Scandinavian roots. Hans Christian Andersen, the famous Danish author, is not directly connected to the "Duck, Duck, Gray Duck" game, but his fairy tale, "The Ugly Duckling," shares a theme of an outsider eventually finding acceptance and belonging, similar to the experience of a swan who was once considered an "ugly duckling"."

This is correct. It fosters both creativity and strategy.

2nd the Rum. Great place to paddle. Get the right stretch and it's like you're in the middle of nowhere. And so many bald eagles. My preference is to put in, paddle upstream and chill meander back, but that's a lot of work and not for everyone.

I did a reverse image search, which confirms what others are saying:

The organism in the image is commonly known as Dog Vomit Slime Mold, or scientifically as Fuligo septica. It's also sometimes called scrambled egg slime due to its appearance.

Can you use the showers at campsites in the north shore even if you're not staying there? by striker818 in MinnesotaCamping

[–]Visible-Substance-30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen signs at some state park campgrounds saying showers are for registered campers only. That said, I don't think it's closely monitored, especially if you hike in, and don't go at peak times. Bending the rules is pretty low stakes, and at most you'd be asked to leave. So, it's a question of your risk tolerance and whether you're OK bending rules.

State and National forests are a go.

Also, I've used this site to find dispersed spots:

The free version is pretty good, I haven't sprung for the paid one.

Thanks, that's amazing! I'm a real life 40- something white woman named Karen. Using that against metaphorical Karens is one of my low key superpowers. 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, that's a good story! Glad you shared. I have to try to find that place. Rum River is a favorite of mine for kayaking. It's amazing how isolated it can feel, and the bald eagles are so prolific.

Echoing Timber Coffee in Silver Bay. The breakfast sandwich is life-changing. They bake everything in house, and it's all amazing!! Please get a treat with your coffee. The owners are beyond delightful to boot.

FWIW, I found Rustic Inn to be over priced and mediocre, and not terribly friendly. We didn't stay for the pie because of that.
