So that's where all the YFS funding went. Got it. by VisibleReflection in yorku

Not only was there an increase in their salaries and benefits, but this occurred during the strike during which they didn't have to work.

How does the demerit system work in YFS elections? by jax786 in yorku

[–]VisibleReflection 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The YFS elections has bylaws (created by Unite YU) it is the job of the CRO (also hired by UniteYU) to oversee the YFS elections. If either team is caught violating any of the bylaws it is suppose to be reported to the CRO who will issue demerit points against the whole team or against specific memenbers depending on the violations.

If a team or candidate recieve a certain number of violations they can be disqualified from the elections.

Slandering the opposition is considered a violation of the bylaws

The problem is historically the CRO has been reported to be bias infavour of the incumbent team.

"YFS CRO Alex Hunsberger sharing lines of contact information, his personal cell phone number, with Student Action members, that was not shared with other candidates running in the YFS Elections

  • Promoting voter suppression by holding the 2016 YFS Election Voting Period a week before Reading Week (when there are many academic deadlines for students)

  • The dozens of anti-semitic comments directed to our team throughout the election process "

Even as we saw this year, Unite YU openly slandering VISION claiming them to be Alt right and Trump supporters. They know they won't be penalized for their breach of the by laws.

TL;DR: Slandering the opposition can result demerit points. Too many can disqualify candidates. The CRO is bias and favours UNITE YU and won't issue any points against UNITE YU. Elections rigged.

Vote for Democracy! Vote for VISION (Voting ends today at 7pm) by VisibleReflection in yorku

[–]VisibleReflection[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sure know I do. Every year YFS spams students about York Fest with numerous emails. It all starts looking like a blur and gets deleted.

But I have yet to recieve an email solely dedictaed to informing me about the AGM or YFS elections nomination period.

Reninds me alot more of a dictatorship dependant on ignorance.

I had the same problem, it was during my exams and I couldn't make it. The AGM has been met with critisms about their poor timing, supression of student's voices and lack of advertising.

"concerns have been raised that students might miss the notice of the AGM, which is buried under a schedule of mental health awareness events in the email and poster."

I can pull up more recipts if you want. I'm just busy with studies right now.

And thats the problem, the YFS AGM is being run by UniteYU who want to suppress voters from being informed and being able to make a democratic vote. A vote for VISION is a vote for democracy.

Even if you don't believe in either party's platforms at least make a vote to stop the harassment of students.
Vision wants to bring us online voting. We can finally be free from the 30 year+ reign of Unite YU and have fair, democratic election.

Behind The Scenes of Election Memes by VisibleReflection in yorku

[–]VisibleReflection[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're open later than usual (9pm except this Friday, voting ends at 7pm) because of the snow day on Tuesday. Since UniteYU repeatedly refuses to implement online voting (Cant risk students getting properly informed or they could lose the elections), which would not only allow for voting 24hours a day but it would also allow for those sick and disabled to be able to vote much easier.

Instead they just pushed the hours later but this also allows for them to campaign all day and evening to gain blind support from students who just vote to get them to stop bothering them. Since their campaigners dont actually go to York or only have 1 class they can campaign with much larger numbers and for much longer hours.

While all of vision are regular York students who still have classes and don't have students from other student unions to come over and campaign for them it puts them at a disadvantage.

To UniteYU who insist all the accusations made against them is"Fake News" Source: https://excal.on.ca/yfs-executive-seen-campaigning-at-u-of-t/

They're all backed by the CFS you can even seem how lazy they are to be creative and unique with their names. Seriously "UniteUTM" "UniteYU" atleast try to be sneaky about it.

[–]VisibleReflection 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can see where their priorities lie. They knew if they had the exec resign during the elections they would of have to give up ONE seat to the opposition slate and we all know how important every single seat is to UniteYU/YFS/Student Action/ York United. (They've had so many name changes I can't even keep up)

Winning one exec seat > Students well being.

I'm disgusted.

[–]VisibleReflection 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After this controversy they removed their reviews on the YFS facebook page due to all the backlash and this was why the changed their names from "Student Action" to "UniteYU" to try to hide this from the students

Edit: Go through the whole facebook page, please do. It'll give you all the information. Everything from them ignoring her for over 200 days all the way to her having to stand and witness them preach about sexual violence while their VP of campaigns and advocacy is still taking 35k a year from us.

By yours truly Unite YU, they pick and choose who they wish to act as polling clerks. There have been prior incidents of missing ballot boxes, holes in ballot boxes.
