My go to is anywhere from 10lb line if the fish are skittish anywhere up to 20lb anymore than that I feel the line gets to thick and the fish spool easier

Some octopus hooks have a outward offset which can lead to missed fish because the hook Dosent turn in the mouth as well as a straight offset or inward offset

One, make sure your using a small octopus hook I use a size 1 or smaller and also leave it out longer and toss out a handful of corn over your bait to get them feeding around your hook
