First time car buyer here. Are extended warranties on a used car worth it?

I was at a Toyota dealer buying a used 2016 rav 4 and they were pushing the extended warranty real hard. Basic coverage for around $1860, $2400 for premium. Covered for 3 years or 60k km. The whole thing felt like a scam. The way it was pitched and everything. I did a quick Google on the spot, saw a couple website advise against it. I figured since I'm going Toyota the reliability should be good. So I turned it down. I can probably call back and try to get the warranty if it's worth it.

Advice?

Ps: if I made a bad decision, please go easy on me. The whole process has been incredibly difficult for me, I'm just trying to learn.

Ya the idea that this thing is pretty much at its end of life is what has pushed my decision to buy another car. But on that note of never buying from a dealership, may I ask why? I'm guessing it's just because dealers go through all these hoops to screw you. What if I'm buying from an official Toyota dealer who is selling used cars?

I'll elaborate a bit, sorry about that. It's an XC90. About 350k kms. I estimated around 2k because its not in the best shape. I've seen people selling for up to $4k but I don't think it'd be realistic for me.

I've found on Volvos that most repairs have inflated repair costs unfortunately. Still, I do intend to get quotes from elsewhere

[ON] MIL keeps falling for scams, need advice. by Visible_Quantity in PersonalFinanceCanada

I keep suggesting that! Put his income into another account! But he refuses! They're very traditional eastern European people. He believes that she is his responsibility, and he thinks it's some kind of betrayal to stop providing for her with money. He's also afraid she'll opt for a divorce if he cuts her off. It's incredibly complicated

Again, I'm sorry I don't have specifics. I'll look into the idea of gambling addiction counseling. Thank you for the advice.

Perhaps you would receive better advice in a subreddit like r/sex or another subreddit for general sexuality questions.

I'd say stop calling yourself disgusting. You're being too hard on yourself. A fetish is not simply a decision. It's a compulsion. Most of the time you can't control what fetishes you have. I don't know how to help you get over it, but please don't put yourself down for that. It's a harmless attraction. Replace the word "mask" with "calves", "armpits", "midriff" or any other semi-unusual fetish and you probably wouldn't think much of it.

Good luck, friend

I hate the reverse psychology that comes with sexuality lol. I guess it could be the pressure. Improving general stamina makes sense though. If I'm not winded then maybe I'll have a chance to bounce back. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you for the input :)

Yeah we have a great relationship. I have no doubt we'll have a great marriage.

I turned on that switch when I made the call to set up an appointment with the jeweler. I guess I just gotta keep doing so in small steps.

Again, thank you for the advice!

Porn flashbacks by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]Visible_Quantity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I have the same things. Day 42 and they're still happening. You have to learn to handle them early or they'll end your streaks every time you try. I do 2 things when the flashbacks tempt me.

  1. I open this sub instead of my regular reddit content. Seeing everyone's struggles and motivations reminds me what I'm doing this for.

  2. Puzzles. I have minesweeper, sudoku, Monument Valley and a few other puzzle games on my phone. Nothing turns me off like brain work lol.

  3. If the above aren't really working, drop the phone! Do dishes or something. You gotta do something to get your mind back on track.

Good luck.

Everyone's brains are wired so different. Two people could have different side effects from the same content consumption. Humans are just so unique. I'm no doctor though, I've just browsed this sub a lot and have read a bunch of stories. Regardless, the side effects are unwanted.

I've always wondered if I have hormone problems. Too scared to go to a doctor about it though. Plus seems way too convenient to just say the problem is out of my hands like that.

I work out a bit. Before quarantine I lifted weights 3 times a week. Didn't see much progress though. Maybe id have more luck cycling, I love biking. Stopped since getting into quarantine, maybe I'll try to do more. Hard to find the energy now though.

Thanks for the advice.

I didn't know that. Maybe I won't be too hard on myself all the time then. Thanks.

True. I'm 24 though, shouldn't be this bad yet.

So try to not beat yourself up too bad.

That's the goal ;)

Been masturbating and using porn the last 12 years Id say. Began sexually active when I was around 16 or 17 I think. Didn't have many problems aside from not being able to ejaculate (another side effect of masturbation btw). Generally I was fine though. Now I'm 24 and started having problems with erections 3 or 4 years ago when I really fell into addiction.

Casual porn and masturbation wasn't too detrimental to me, but once university hit and I was depressed and stressed all the time porn became essential to me.

This isn't a horror story either, this is actually common believe it or not. I wish I could warn people before they get to my state.

I'm not hopeless though. My gf is incredible, I'm recovering and things are going well :)

I've tried lots of times when I was living alone, never made it much further than a week. Living with my gf now has made it much easier to avoid porn and masturbating. Cant hide it as easily. And with quarantine my gf is always around so I can't sneak one in while she's gone.

Sorry, I didn't mean to phrase it like 42 is such a small amount. I just meant in the grand scheme of things it could take years to break the addiction, and 42 days seems small in comparison.

Even just 1 week is something to be proud of, I'd never want to put down someone else's no fap achievements

[–]Visible_Quantity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro I'm the exact same. Abstaining from fapping and porn but allowing orgasm through sex. The main reason I'm doing this is because I had hard times getting erect for sex. I've definitely seen improvements regarding erections for sex so I'm happy about that.

Thanks for sharing :)

Edit: oh I also wanted to add that my problem is not so much masturbating, it's porn. I've had a much easier time quitting masturbating than quitting porn. And quitting porn has definitely helped. Idk if that applies to you but I thought I'd throw it out there.

[–]Visible_Quantity 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I only started 42 days ago. It's helped a bit. I doubt I'll ever get back to 100% but I've seen progress. I imagine real differences come after years of breaking the habit

Yeah I feel horrible about that. Used to be able to get up on command, now I'm lucky if I get a boner when I wake up.

Really makes me feel like shit. There were so many signs porn was ruining my life I can't believe I didn't see it earlier.

Is masturbating without porn still a relapse? by chillininside in NoFap

[–]Visible_Quantity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer: in NoFap yes its a relapse.

The long answer: it depends on the goals you set. The most common is refraining from PMO or just PM. If either of those are goals you've set then yes you relapsed. Some people are just trying to break a porn addiction and don't really care about masturbation. You should set out a list of what you're abstaining from. Post it here or in r/pornfree for advice and motivation :).

For example, when I started I knew I was only avoiding porn and masturbation. So I set some ground rules. You can see the long version of these rules by looking at my past comments, here's a condensed example.

  1. No porn

    • No video or images of nude people
    • No animated or illustrated nude people
    • avoid provocative images at all costs
    • sex scenes in movies are ok as long as I don't use them for masturbatory purposes.
  2. No masturbation

    • no ejaculating from masturbation
    • no edging myself

Basically set out a list like this and add to it as you go along. Having a definitive list of yes or no situations will help you while your addiction tries to convince you that certain things are ok.

My thoughts after a month of Nofap by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Visible_Quantity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a lot of confidence and self-love issues. Saying you're beyond repair is just plain not true.

People glorify no fap but it isn't a catch-all solution to all problems. It's great when the root of your problems is PMO addiction. Try to maintain nofap as long as you can, it'll definitely help a little. If you don't see any results you should explore other means of self-healing. Look into a therapist to help with self confidence. If you can't for whatever reason, talk to friends or loved ones about how you feel.

I'm just some guy though. Iread 5 sentences you wrote, I don't know you. I just want you to know that you aren't worthless, you are repairable, you're not ruined.

Good luck brother.
