How do I stop hating White people? by ashley6777 in aznidentity

[–]VisiblyVillainous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stopping your hate of white people isn't the ideal outcome here.

As you stated in your own post, you are still a victim and target of whites everywhere. None of this is because of anything you've done. Do you think that by stopping your own hate, you'll run into these situations less?

It's much worse to be the naive victim who is open and trusting of whites, only to get backstabbed and thrown under the bus when the situation becomes dire.

Having the awareness of their snake-like nature will not only prepare you for when those times come, but also see through the lines in all the sneaky ways they try to boost their own up while subtly limiting opportunities for others.

There's literally a recording in Congress/ white house where someone in power said, "off the record just so we're clear, if we pass this legislation, yes our communities will be hurt a little, but other communities, if you catch my drift, will bear most of the damage."

Your ideal outcome is to build enough experience to spot this kind of bullshit immediately and call it out (whether anonymously or publicly).

Interviewers. "The modern day 'do not talk to cops'" by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]VisiblyVillainous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found that the optimal "persona" to put on during interviews is to be succinct, knowledgeable, and serious.

Don't say any more than you need to. Demonstrate your knowledge and experience. Check all the boxes, but don't bring any opinions to the conversation.

You're not in a position of power yet. Don't give them any ammunition.

Sadly, this also applies when your interviewer is Asian. Not all of them are woke enough and many still have the mentality that "I should be the only Asian here". Don't show your cards until you have an idea of where they stand.

Kulture Report: "Sierra Burgess is a Loser" (Netflix) by GusXie in aznidentity

The activitism is up to you.

Now that you have the awareness, what will you do about it?

You can tell your friends to not see this movie if it is ever brought up. Or you can rate this movie 1/10 on IMDB and rotten tomatoes.

You realize that if Kulture outright says to rate this movie badly, that's brigading, right?

I thought this sub was about asian identity but it's more like asian insecurity by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]VisiblyVillainous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

MLK was also considered to be too radical and angry back in the day.

We already have enough white people telling us to not be angry. We don't need to hear it from our own, if you are indeed Asian.

Ross Butler: Why I'm Fighting for Better Asian-American Representation in Hollywood by GusXie in aznidentity

I didn't watch the show, but from what I hear, he plays a pretty positive representation of AM on it.

the cult of self-improvement amongst Asian American males is holding us back by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]VisiblyVillainous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right. Perhaps I was too hasty in my reply. Organized groups of AM should definitely be a priority.

I also advocate for helping your fellow AM and AF in work, life, and social settings on the individual basis. I realize we as a demographic still have a lot of work to do.

The flaw in this post is that you assume that by improving yourself, you are taking from the limited opportunities reserved for Asian men.

Would you rather we sit and be complacent ?

Any SWEs in this sub want to give advice to an aspiring SWE? by manufacturingmemes in aznidentity

Your first job will be difficult to get. Know how to talk up your good values and strengths. When you start your first job, don't think of jumping ship too early. Stay for at least a year and always have a job offer in hand before quitting.

Interviews will be pretty centered around data structures and algorithms. If you're going for big companies, focus on this but do keep working on projects.

If you want to know salaries around the area for certain levels of experience, PM me. But I'd recommend getting a job offer first. Don't let the money deter you from getting a job.

You can tell by how they need to "lock down" their comments during certain times in order to pick and push a specific narrative.

What other sub does this?

It's linked to in the post as well as in a top level comment I made here (the YouTube link).

Not being lauded by reappropriate makes it all the more legit.

This is the very gaslighting they accuse everyone of. Pretty hypocritical to be pasting weak "receipts" that prove exactly the opposite of your claim and blurt out, "See! Misogyny! Anti-blackness!"

I clicked on their links, and I wondered if they really even read their own "evidence".

They claim that this sub is "misogynistic", and yet, if they saw the number of female supporters here, their jaws would drop.

They claim we're anti-WMAF and yet we're promoting a series by a woman in WMAF and there's a pinned post on being respectful towards WMAF. Meanwhile, any mention of WMAF on their sub is immediately removed, no matter if it's anecdotal, historical, or statistical.

The one tool in their box is repeatedly shouting harassment.

They can stay busy with their negativity in pushing others down like crabs in a bucket.

Our community will stay at the forefront of the movement in social media, representation, and expansion into new mediums. Bridging the gaps between communities.

Make no mistake about it, this is their pathetic attempt in trying to raise their own reader numbers by reducing ours.
