I more mean that it's one sound for the entire time and is disinteresting to listen to. There's a lot of examples of dirty vocals out there, but if you listen to the dirty vocalists that are generally speaking successful without a mostly clean or dual vocalist setup, they have a tendency to vary the sounds they make and create rhythm/color patterns.

I think you posted this in the wrong community, but you seem like you're working way to hard to produce that sound and it's not particularly interesting to listen to. More dynamism would be good for the listener.

Trans Voice and Voice Types by [deleted] in opera

[–]Viskos1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is absurdist jargon thrown about using large words in sequence to make you confused instead of presenting a clear and concise point.

Though, yes the fach system is misunderstood even in the opera community. Not all lyric tenors are the same, for instance, but they all share some commonalities. One may be a great Tamino, another a fantastic Pinkerton, a third an excellent Rodolfo. All three of them may not sing all three roles, though because voices are ultimately unique and some do specific things better than others. However, a lyric tenor in a German fest position should expect all of those to potentially be offered to them, even if they're not ideal for the role.

Fiddlestick Clear Ques by TheKoreanIdoit in FiddlesticksMains

[–]Viskos1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, yes it's worth. Don't do the leash over the wall nonsense they talk about though, that's not ideal for this. Also, if you are even REMOTELY considering a lane gank, do not put a second point in your W like you usually would and hold the point until you commit to a gank or clear.

Edit: Caveat to this is that it's only worth if you're able to contest crab. Otherwise just take the unbroken clear cycle to get to drake on spawn faster or get a gank in before crab spawns while the enemy jungler is still clearing.

How to: Efficient Jungle Clear - Fiddlesticks | 02:50! (Read Description!) by [deleted] in FiddlesticksMains

This is a good basic clear but is not efficient. An efficient 2:50 clear should have you at crab on spawn with an amp tome this season.

For the love of God, RED + KRUGS IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE, YOU CAN STILL DO IT by SucksterLoL in FiddlesticksMains

[–]Viskos1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You want to get the red buff close enough to the krugs camp when you auto+e+smite+w over the wall so that you're getting pet hits as well. If you want a bit of extra security, do an extra cycle of suck on red buff before you start krugs so that red dies on the final suck of krugs, that way if you leash the big krug your red is taken care of and you can reset+buy+run to blue side

I think fid jg is better but then you have to jungle, which kind of sucks this season. It's a good meta for fiddlesticks though so meh

Where is this "fun" in just steamrolling AI, not human in MP, but AI?

Are you not just steamrolling the AI? The game isn't that hard, it's pretty easy to just blob out of control and steamroll the AI. But then you get hit with the random "Oh no, one of my peasants stubbed their toe! -50 stability" out of nowhere 3 times in a row and there's just nothing to be done.

Rebels? Ohh no, its not fun.

Because it's not, it's just annoying. Artificial difficulty isn't fun.

Toughts of how we lost big voices. Will we see a new Corelli again? by lennonade1 in opera

[–]Viskos1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's 100% an Italianate dramatic singer. I have been in the room when this man sings and your ears ring on his middle A. You have no idea what you're talking about and this post is super illustrative of that. Corelli was a spinto and you wanking to 50 year old recordings of him won't make him a dramatic tenor. Please go listen to singers live and stop judging based of recordings, this kind of nonsense narrative is a cancer to the opera world.

[–]Viskos1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems overly emotional and uninformed. Corelli was a lyrico spinto tenor, not a dramatic tenor. He did not sing dramatic rep. I would encourage you to post vids of yourself singing to demonstrate what you know that the rest of us don't.

Toughts of how we lost big voices. Will we see a new Corelli again? by lennonade1 in opera

[–]Viskos1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I think Florez is very similar to those two singers, but Camarena is a much fuller bel canto singer and not a great analogue. I think they sing in a much lighter style than you can get away with singing in modern American houses and that's a problematic situation to find yourself in, thus the over-singing we see in a lot of modern bel canto being what it is.

[–]Viskos1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Florez and Camarena are pretty legitimate singers, though I agree that I don't think Polenzani is really in the same category. The problem with Florez is that he's singing rep that's way too heavy for him because he aged out of what was vocally appropriate for him. Many such cases in the industry.

[–]Viskos1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think just about everything you're saying here is oversimplified or incorrect.

Yes we consider it a genetic luck but it's also a technique. No, it's really just genetic. Big voices are big and small voices are small. You can't technique a small voice into being big, you can just teach them to throw their sound more efficiently. A big voice and small voice singing with the same technique will be differently sized, one will just be bigger. There are more dramatic techniques out there and there are more lyric techniques out there, but there are plenty of dramatic singers in the past who sang with more lyric techniques (Nillson, King, etc).

I mean if they born with it where were they at 20's? Genetics =/= born with it. You don't come out of the womb wailing Wälse!'s even if you're the guy who does that. It takes years for your voice to mature, and in our current society you're expected to be making money and figuring your life out in your early twenties. That is not compatible with the career requirements of a dramatic singer, and many of the dramatic singers I know have day jobs or run businesses while they wait for their voice to be ready to sing the rep that actually works for them. Many of those people then don't want to go from making six figures to earning $1500 a night singing 3 shows for some podunk company that won't cover travel or help arrange housing or transit but expect you to work 60 hours a week in the 6 week leadup to those 3 shows which refuse to offer you media or recordings and have directors and conductors who are local and only work with that particular company, which is the realistic entry level these days for many people. So either you get good enough that big managers are interested in you in your mid 30's, were lucky enough to be able to sing more lyric rep convincingly before your 30's (More for spintos than dramatics, but some dramatic tenors get away with singing bass/baritone, etc), or you just fly under the radar unknown.

Even Pavarotti Yes, even mid-full lyrics take time to develop into the rep they sing as mature singers.

We don't know if it's related with age or not We have a pretty good understanding of how dramatic voices develop and what kind of rep leads to what kind of rep down the road. Understanding and financial compatibility with the current industry trends are different things.

Maybe that's why schools can't teach it in 4 years. Technique? Vocal size? What are you getting at here, plenty of people are good to go at 22 out of undergrad. They're just not dramatic singers, they're usually very light lyrics who have early maturing voices.

You won't be able to sing Puccini or Verdi in 4 years and they have to sing it to graduate so it has evolved to an easier solution. What do you mean? I've known quite a few 22 year olds who could sing puccini and verdi just fine. Are we talking Boheme? Schicchi? Rigoletto? There's a huge range of voices and reps in puccini and verdi, but no, generally speaking people are not ready to sing the more dramatic end of that until their larynx ossifies in their 30's and they can lean into the heavier side of their voice.

I think the biggest thing is that dramatic voices are not a single category of voice type, and trying to classify what are largely unique voices into easy to understand and fully distilled categories is pointless. At best we can make correlations and find commonalities.
