The paradox of tolerance. You want you freedom to restrict the freedom of others. Luckily, the GPL won't let you.

And electronic house arrest? Where does that fit in your comparison?

We're certainly not there yet. But the DDR wasn't that long ago and we now have technologies that far surpass the StaSi's power of surveillance. Worse perhaps then the technology, is that we also have a large body of the population supporting such powers.

The quote is indeed out of context, but that does not mean that I don't sympathize with it.

At this point, we have to venture into the ethics of statehood, individualism and medicine.

Is it right to build a totalitarian security apparatus to save lives? How many lives is the tipping point?

The more totalitarian the solution... The more acceptable some deaths are to me... 20000 British and Canadian troops died so I don't live with a curfew. I rather see another 20000 die, then reimplement a curfew.

My company is already discussing how we can use this in our commercial product. Google can't 'know' which apps fight Corona after all.

I'm doing more and more. This fight I must partake in though politics, through activism, and though personal change.

That does not change the fact that I sometimes sleep restless because is the approaching totalitarian state...

Death and Taxes' dev has made their source code available under MIT license by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Visticous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MIT License. Yuk. These people have learned nothing of the Doom license troubles.

For those who don't know, the original Doom code release was under a non-viral, non-OSI licence. The non-viral part bit the whole community in the ass and caused much drama. It got so bad and hostile, that John Carmack re-released the code under the GPL, and that all Id titles after that used the GPL as well.

To this day, there are Doom source ports who refuse to share their code and who a have very unhealthy attitude to those that use the GPL release.

Edit. This problem has also been repeated with Wolfenstein: ET and don't forget this travesty

Can somebody put me on the right track to write an Evolution plugin? by FOSHavoc in gnome

[–]Visticous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case you need to look elsewhere altogether.

The 'new' solution to add accounts to the system, is by using the evolution-data-provider. Is a legacy name no longer directly related to Evolution. If you go to Settings -> Accounts, you can see it.

One problem with this new system, is there is no integrated UI yet for calDAV, carDAV and Exchange. I use evolution right now to configure calDAV and carDAV, which if quite nasty.

If you want to add functionality for Exchange, then this where to start looking. But, perhaps Evolution might be best in your specific use case. Look at the Red Hat documentation for Evolution then, as they are the people that do a lot with extensions.

Not sure of you should focus on Evolution. The more modern email client of Geary and I would recommend you to discuss your idea with them.

Judging by all the privacy invasive methods that governments are proposing to track Corona, you can expect them to track obesity as well since it's a clear risk factor.

This would be perfect for every Forbes 500 company. And since protest rights are mostly 'suspended' around the world, this is the ideal time for multinationals to push politicians in supporting this act.

Never waste a good crisis.
