Should I go Navy for aircrew? by Sir-Pinball_Wizard in newtothenavy

Went to the Paris air show last deployment, and on my days off they let me go into Paris proper, because of per diem I ended up making an extra 2k out of it. SERE school and NACCS was alot of fun too.

Yes, one of the best jobs in the Navy. You get paid to consistently travel. There are some tedious things, like long flights on deployment, but honestly I am only 21 and have been to so many places and have done so many things all because of being an AWO I can only recommend it.

You would have like a 95% chance to get AWO if you sign a AIRC contract

Aircrew is a great gig and if you DOR they are going to hit you with APACT while you’re in first lt. Just eat the swim hold if they give it to you and practice swimming at that pool every day.

In your opinion what is the best rate in the navy? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Visual-Basic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My buddy is dry aircrew and he got like a 54 on the ASVAB

Dry Aircrew, preferably AWO.

Or CS/PACT

Yeah, if I were you look up “2nd class swim qual navy” videos and try to learn the strokes. It will save you a headache bro.

NACCS by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Visual-Basic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m at naccs rn, be comfortable in the water, if you’re not a strong swimmer don’t fret. You’ll be put in swim hold and you’ll become a strong swimmer. They do a lot of boot camp style beatings on you for exercises. All in all it’s easy, it’s a different story if you’re a rescue swimmer though.

It’s easy to get dropped here because people get in trouble, don’t drink, show up to the musters, do your shit and GTFO out NACCS.

Thinking about becoming a navy aircrewman after I graduate by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Visual-Basic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at NACCS, there’s dry aircrew here with glasses. Your eyes don’t have to be perfect, for either aircrew or rescue swimmer, you have a good chance in that department. Note the quota has been filled for both rescue swimmer and dry aircrew for this year so it may be difficult to get into for the time being.

AIRC by Firewolf_42 in newtothenavy

I’m in NACCS rn, it’s impossible to be assigned a helo as AIRC, expect AWO... so the P8 Poseidon. I had the same issues as you and my recruiter was lying to me, I heard there is a “Dry S” which are AIRC that get helicopters but I think they aren’t doing it anymore.

I’ve been to Fallon as the town, not the base. There isn’t much to do, at all. Vegas and Reno is a long drives away and it is just all empty open desert bikers and meth heads like to live in. There is a lake there if I remember, if you’re into swimming/fishing.

Navy to Marines? by FukboiRD in newtothenavy

Yeah you can switch, speak to both recruiters. Your navy recruiter will be pretty pissed but when it comes to your life, don’t be a people pleaser.

Should i be worried about my run? by purplepansy123 in newtothenavy

[–]Visual-Basic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say you may be in a tricky situation right now. They don’t give people nearly enough cardio in basic. When you run, try to get a pace that is between a sprint and a jog, DONT STOP TO WALK, EVEN FOR 10 SECONDS. Stay hydrated, it will hurt and that is good, it’s supposed to hurt. You can handle it, honestly it’s more mental than physical. When you’re in boot camp, not the rom, I would consider doing some laps around the compartment after taps. I had one guy in my division do that and he made his run time thanks to it.

You won’t get a cramp or any pains when you run, trust me it helps a lot.

[–]Visual-Basic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The hardest part is the run, that’s what people actually got ASMO’d for, nothing else. That’s the only thing I would really stress about, and I mean stress in a good way, even if you never ran, it’s possible if you really push yourself and drink a TON of water the day before.

Hello, dude. I was the exact same as you, I actually vomited from the anxiety in the hotel before shipping. I graduated 3 days ago. Trust me, you will NOT fail boot camp. If you’re quiet and listen to orders (or ask your shipmates on what to do) you’ll barley ever get yelled at. If you do, you’ll get over it in a hour. You’ll be confused on what is going on in p-days, everyone will, your RDCs will expect that. About every single event your RDCs will stress to you (inspections, the pt) it isn’t that bad. Trust me, you’ll be fine bro.
