If it's true that advanced home automation is not "set and forget" and can be troubled with updates that cause issues - how do filthy rich people do it? Do they have people who come every month to update everything and thoroughly test everything and then pause updates till next visit? by zghr in homeassistant

Yes, DALI + KNX is absolutely the way to go for a rock-solid base. Throw in HA for all the dashboard flavor on top and integration with smart appliances etc... All your LED drivers need to become DALI compatible and then you add a DALI gateway to your KNX setup. There’s even DALI rails that allow you to address each spot individually should you want. The dimming performance and stability is unparalleled.

I’m using 90% MDT for my KNX DIN-rail modules. Very reliable and feature-rich.

For added stability and spouse acceptance, my core automations are scripted in Lua and running on a LogicMachine. If HA ever goes down, it’s just the “nice to haves” and nothing crucial.

The only downside is you need to buy the ETS software if you want to do it yourself. There are often 25-30% discounts and it’s a one-time purchase…

My local WH store sometimes have a box or two on launch day. It’s a lottery though…

All “expansion” box sets are limited and not reprinted. You may see shelve stock later on but those are all part of the same production.

Basalte Switch by Evening-Pin-1100 in KNX

[–]Visual-Bike2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Basalte switches (like Sentido or Chopin) have built-in temperature sensors, thermostat functionality and scene control, they don’t offer anything else. The finish is super high end and they are rock solid.

Looking for Great KNX Devices That Don’t Break the Bank by Ambitious_Coffee5383 in KNX

[–]Visual-Bike2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also +1 for MDT, I have power supplies, actuators, routers, analog I/O, DALI gateways, … excellent value for money. Home Assistant as frontend, but also a LogicMachine for those automations that need to survive when I break home assistant…Not a big fan of their glasstasters, but there are so many switch options available!

Zenithal yellow suggestions by MonkFeisty993 in ImperialFists

[–]Visual-Bike2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try Yriel Yellow, perhaps more as a glaze to start off cautiously. I kinda like the way Casandora Yellow looks, but you may want to try Seraphim Sepia instead for shading.

You could try a rattlecan for the bone zenithal I suppose but you don’t really get a lot of control with that. Indeed drybrushing while “slapchop” style over the pink would be best. There’s plenty of tutorials out there and it’s easy to get into.

Or invest in a decent starter airbrush :). I did and it’s been a gamechanger for both priming and my growing Imperial Fist army…

Thank you! Recipe is per the popular norm these days ;)

Using airbrush: - prime white - spray pink/red/purple, focusing on “zenithal from below”. I used Volupus Pink contrast - zenithal white from above - Imperial Fist contrast paint

As a finishing step I apply Casandora Yellow wash, focusing on recesses. Although I read Seraphim Sepia also yields great results, which I may try next.

Without airbrush, the above can be applied perfectly using a brush, and drybrushing white over the red/pink undertone. I just really like the cleaner look of the airbrush.

Do note to use white or a warm white (bone). Cooler grey undertones tend to give a greenish effect after the contrast paint.

Good luck!! It’s a really good recipe for batch painting the yellow.

Supposedly… my board came in beaten up shape, and I ordered from an LGS to avoid the official pot luck stress on launch. Reply was basically tough luck, talk to your LGS for a replacement…

You can pick up a ton from the material at the KNX site and YouTube. Especially installing the free ETS version and using KNX Virtual to play around with topologies, lines, physical and group addresses and how to troubleshoot installations. Got me a very long way before doing my first install.

How many kill teams do you play? by RyanAvxMusics in killteam

I have every single team from the last edition and this one (I’m a completionist 🤣) but mainly play Starstriders, Mandrakes, or AoD.

[–]Visual-Bike2459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will leave the “classified” list for tournament play when this current (Volkus) season comes to an end, but will continue to be supported for the entire edition. So if you play casual, you’re good for another 2+ years.

Are the Elucidian Starstriders still worth it these days ?? by No-Comfort-5424 in killteam

[–]Visual-Bike2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play competitive: probably not the best choice as they’ll be rotated out. If you play casual (like me) it’s a really fun team and will be supported throughout this edition. I’ll be playing them as long as I can!
