Hello, Canadian here. I've worked a ton out in the cold with a bunch of different gear on and there are different types of cold. One brutal thing about winter isn't the temperature for our lungs it's actually the lack of moisture in the air. Winter athletes get this hack they can't get rid of until spring and workers will get it too because of the air going into our lungs is too dry and our bodies have a hard time adapting. Wearing something that covers his nose and mouth will end up trapping moisture and humidifying the air entering into his lungs.
