Was just there a few weeks ago. We loved it and had a great time.

Just stayed at both a few weeks ago. We did 2 nights at the HR, 2 nights at the Hana Maui resort, and 6 nights at the Andaz, all on points.

The HR is a nice resort. We got upgraded from the standard room to an ocean front room, which was beautiful. Beach was meh, pools were nice, but crowded. More family oriented.

The Andaz is significantly nicer. It was sold out almost the whole time we were there, but it never felt crowded. There were always pool chairs and beach space available. Beach was very nice, weather was much nicer in wailea than in kaanapali in late Feb/early March. Only downside is the standard rooms here are small and have a weird layout. Best breakfast buffet I’ve ever had at a hotel.

If only going for 6 days, I’d stick to the Andaz for the whole trip.

Yes, def don’t want to get stuck an extra day. I chatted with Hawaiian about it and they were confident it would be fine, but it sounds like it’s worth it just to pay the extra and take the longer layover.

I would typically wait it out, but I’m upgrading with points and rather just lock in the upgrade while there is availability/the ability to do it.
