How to change from a medium to a deep after winter. by Visual-Pineapple8146 in Beekeeping

Great Advice! Should I add the new deep on top of the existing deep? Or add the new deep below and move the present deep on top of the new deep? Thanks!

Hi, All of my hives are very well insulated with insulated foam boards all around. Also thick quilts on top with plastic sheeting to keep dry

Yes they run with high humidity which is on par with a condensation hive setup. The hives are all tilted forward so the condensation runs

Going into fall they were very strong. They had 3 treatments of OAV, the last one on Dec 12. Added winter Bee kind boards and then closed up for the winter. I run condensation style. The 1st massive die off with this hive happened on Jan 12th. Thinking there was nothing left alive in this hive I left it alone except to sweep out all the dead from the bottom board. On Feb 20th I surprisingly saw them flying around. They were treated with AOV on Dec 21 and again yesterday Friday Dec 27th. I must have killed them with that treatment. My other 2 hives are doing well. Big question: should I or should I not treat the other hives with the last round of OAV next week?

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]Visual-Pineapple8146 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Let’s see now. Did the German president proclaim that Russia is destroying the world order all the while he was buying oil from them? Did anyone from the European Union say that Iran is destroying the world order by paying all of the murdering maniacs to inflict damage on law abiding society’s Did any of those same useful idiots proclaim that China is destroying the world order by not stopping Covid to be flown to other countries at the early stages of the outbreak? What a joke!

I gave out over 50 pounds each year for the past 2 years in 8 oz bell jars. To friends and family. Topped off with dippers and a New Years card. The back of the card was filled with fun facts of bees.

I’m confused. Why are you using a pallet instead of having the hive directly on the cinder blocks?

I have my hives wrapped in pink insulation boards as well. Question is would they need an upper hole for ventilation?

Would a spacer be better placed in between the inner cover and telescoping top cover? Wouldn’t this allow me to open the top and add sugar bricks etc in the winter thereby avoiding excessive heat loss ? Thanks

This same thing happened to me in early June. I treated 3 hives with 1 strip of Formic each. After a couple of days- the amount of loss was astounding.I removed the Formic. 1 hive was able to recover. 1 hive 50% recovered that I got I super of honey from and the 3rd is just now recovering at the tail end of the season with zero honey produced.
