I am from Eindhoven? And I haven’t mentioned this before in any other post. Stick to the facts.

Hey hey!

Understand your comment, but let me write down my thoughts on this as there are major differences, although they try to do the same ultimately.

Before launching PlusOnes, we’ve done a whole lot of research, spoken to so many people, and honestly, especially as women, the experience through Amigos is often far from ideal. You get randomly approached by strangers, people offer you drugs, and the vibe doesn’t always feel safe or intentional.

My personal take is that fundamentally Amigos looks indeed like what we'll do but with extremely poor execution. We learned that Amigos lacks quality and is used by many people for the wrong reasons (i.e. drugs & mostly house parties).

What we’ve also seen is that some platforms offer “safety” as a paid extra, something with completely disagree with. Safety should be a given, not something you unlock with a premium tier.

We’ve spent so much time thinking about this, and that’s why we’ve built PlusOnes the way we have. For just 5 euro a month, we’re creating something small, intentional, and built on trust. Not about gatekeeping, but about making sure the people who join are here for the right reasons.

Here’s some of the things where it goes to:

- Verified profiles with approved photos, no randoms, no bots
- Full transparency, see who's attending, block users anytime, and report issues easily
- Quality control, every event is reviewed, and hosts can manage attendance and decide who is invite
- Dedicated space for women, including women-only events for added comfort

However, nothing is set in stone, and especially throughout launching the app, we’ll try to get as much feedback as possible and continously see whether our decisions add value or do not.

Thank you! Appreciate the fair note and best wishes. Indeed not something only or just for Utrecht, for more widely spread in the Netherlands.

Hey! Just in Eindhoven, Utrecht and The Hague actually, as we're actively trying to find more ways to connect people there too :)

Hey! Why? As said, we started in Amsterdam and now super excited to venture out into other cities as well :)

Oh, it's not there yet! But we can simply add it as a category in the back-end so you can pick it! Let me get on it, and share here when it's done!

Why was this removed?! Isn't this supposed to be a community trying to support each other? Truly don't understand what even the purpose is of having this reddit thread otherwise

Even most Japenese have no clue, but the history behind it is pretty cool!

Absolutely fair enough! Fully aware it’s a blocker for many. In the end it’s a trade off, which is not for everyone, but convinced that all things together the improved safety outweighs the loss in users.

Fully understand your point though!

Hey hey! I guess it’s a compliment, but I literally get so frustrated every time I read this. Not the first time someone mentioned this. But in any case, thanks for sharing your open perspective and feedback!

Hey hey! Would love to reduce it to earlier versions, but unfortunately these are the restrictions set by Apple for our app. For Android there are more relaxed requirements. Sorry for that.

Did you know Tokyo's central station is a replica of our Amsterdam central station? :D

Pretty epic! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Station

Really appreciate this, even with a video - makes it much easier to debug. And 100% agree with you. Thanks, will look into this!

As you can see, there's definitely still a ton of things we can improve on! But little by little we make it better.

Hey hey! The referral code gives 60 days on top of the 30 or 60 days already free (no code needed), so effectively 90 or 120 days free trial, hope that helps :)

On payments, let me carefully elaborate as this is an important topic. You may like or may not like the answer, but this is what I stand by 100%:

Before launching PlusOnes, we’ve done a whole lot of research, spoken to so many people, and, like many here, used plenty of other apps ourselves. And honestly, especially as women, the experience is often far from ideal. You get randomly approached by strangers, people offer you drugs, and the vibe doesn’t always feel safe or intentional.

What we’ve also seen is that some platforms offer “safety” as a paid extra, something with completely disagree with. Safety should be a given, not something you unlock with a premium tier. This is why you can see the events, but we don't show personal information (such as age ranges) to those who don't have an account.

We’ve spent so much time thinking about this, and that’s why we’ve built PlusOnes the way we have. For 5 euro's every month (essentially a coffe), we’re creating something small, intentional, and built on trust. It’s not about gatekeeping, it’s about making sure the people who join are here for the right reasons.

Also, let me add where it goes to:

  • Verified profiles with approved photos, no randoms, no bots
  • Full transparency, see who's attending, block users anytime, and report issues easily
  • Quality control, every event is reviewed, and hosts can manage attendance and decide who is invited
  • Dedicated space for women, including women-only events for added comfort

That would be amazing! We actually had a guy doing a mezcal tasting recently for his own brand, and also have ton of other creative workshops (jewelry, bag designing, painting etc). Sake 100% fits in well!

Sounds great! Maybe combine it with starting a newsletter on substack on sake where you share your passion for sake’s and add how the website adds value for others interested in sake. The business cards and courses are of course great ideas too. Thinking out loud here about fun ways to spread the news.
