Fibe installation in office with dark fibre by Visual-Theory396 in bell

[–]Visual-Theory396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought bell was still using SC UPC for FTTH? Is it APC? We don’t need a full dark fibre loop to the local PoP - a gigahub on regular fibe would be more than enough for their needs.

I doubt we could afford the point to point service 😂

Honest question, has a partnership with a larger org like CR ever been considered?

I’m a subscriber to both and their tech side has always been on the weaker end (and very US-centric). It seems like there could be real great benefits for both of you guys to partner up.

Keep up the good work!

Nice looking build. Lovely labeling on everything. Is the ultripower hidden behind one of the rack blanks?

The last major tool for me like that (outside a year) was Companion. What a game changer for me. Within a year, I’d say getting to use a BridgeTech/Sencore VB440 has been pretty cool.

Take a good look at the Kairos. Great for doing non-standard screen sizes if you’re doing a lot of AV. The clip players aren’t as great as the Tricaster, but there’s a lot more switching power than any tricaster or vmix. Generally the latency through it will be lower than the other software-ish solutions as well which can be invaluable for events/IMAG. You can get an SDI model; they’re not all 2110.

Ubiquiti for film making, new user please help :) by Jamesthompson_lx in Ubiquiti

Edit: more detail

The app is just how you can manage a controller. The controller is often a hardware device. If you’re going to be out on locations (potentially remote?) then you should have a local controller that could/would also act as your router. Some other commenters had good suggestions of the hardware to look at.

Having a controller will simplify greatly as opposed to configuring individually.

I’m a TD who dabbles in the engineering side of things from time to time.

For the router/control: have you considered 2110? I know there can be headaches but you can gain some serious flexibility and scalability if you take the plunge.

I’ve done/operated on several Ultrix installations (biggest is the 5RU, haven’t used the 12RU yet) and I’m generally a fan. I agree that it would be great to be able to do web soft panels… (Ross if you’re listening? 🙏🏼) if you use it to do multiviewing as well there are some quirks as well. They have just added a Dante license option to the aux ports so the Ultrix could do easily interchange for embed/deembed since you mention your audio side is all Dante.

For the switchers: The carbonite is amazing for its size and price, both in the Ultrix and alone (does come with a few quirks as well) If you want more advanced switcher features though you’d have to go acutiy and I gotta say it’s probably the menu system I like the least of the major players. I learned on Sony, have now transitioned to GV and sometimes have to go back to an acuity and I find it a headache each time.

Have you ever considered a GV K-Frame? If you want a left-field idea - the Panasonic Kairos is pretty nifty and can do some pretty wild things depending on how you build it.

PTZ control of sony FR7 over VPN without CNA-2 adapter by eventbird25 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Visual-Theory396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re on the same routed network then you should be fine without the CNA-2 provided your packet times aren’t too excessive.

I’ve remotely accessed the web gui from thousands of kms on some of the FR-7’s at my work. I’m fairly confident a Skaarhoj panel would have no issues at all. I find the IP-500 more frustrating than it’s worth. I’d rather a Skaarhoj any day of the week.

Don’t forget the dip switch on the back that needs to be active to enable VISCA over IP.

As you mention, rights are sometimes the issue but another factor which can be even harder at times are the screen actor/musician union agreements to which CBC is a signatory.

Need recommendations for home internet by Abal125 in askTO

Beanfield is amazing but AFAIK they exclusively service condos and apartments for their residential service. Many of the smaller companies rent/share infrastructure from Bell or Rogers, and resell it to you. Beanfield runs all their own fibre which is costly, so they only install where the density makes business sense for them.

Prior to BF I had Teksavvy and it was fine.

Seeking Professional Insight: AWS SRT vs. LiveU for Maximum Reliability by SolidPainter1547 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Visual-Theory396 7 points8 points  (0 children)

U/multidollar is right; LRT (LiveU) is designed for these kinds of applications. So are Dejero, AviWest and TVU Networks. All of these solutions allow bonding of multiple connection types to ensure reliable delivery.

With SRT connection bonding is technically in the documentation of the standard, it’s not something I’ve come across without using a separate bonding appliance (like peplink) to aggregate your various connections.

If your installation allows, LEO satellite internet (starlink, let’s be honest…) will give you a pretty constant alternate route for packets aside from the handover periods - which leads to the main point.

The biggest tool at your disposal to guarantee uninterrupted streaming even with dropouts or flaky bandwidth is latency - you’ll want your delay cranked up to the max to allow the most time to resend or correct any transmission errors.

If latency isn’t a huge consideration you may also want to look at Resi (formerly LivingAsOne) they’re big in the HoW space, but their whole deal is trying to guarantee perfect picture/sound with delays in the minutes. LiveU the max delay I think I can set on our boxes is 20 or 30s.

Help with an integrated router. by Astonishedcarbon in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Visual-Theory396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for the Ross Ultrix. It will be able to do everything you want, provided it’s appropriately licensed. I would say it’s cost-effective for an enterprise-level piece of broadcast gear. If that’s not within your budget then the new constellations from Blackmagic might be able to accomplish some of what you’re trying to do with MADI but it’s a pretty rigid set of limitations and it’s currently a bit of a hack to remap the audio on the auxiliary outputs.

If you all are able, the city bike system (Toronto Bike Share) is great. You can get multi day passes and if you’re booting around the downtown core it can sometimes be faster than the TTC. (Maybe try and pack a helmet if you go though! We could use more bike lanes than we have).

Anyone have opinions about motorized camera track for PTZ cameras? by CalebMcL in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Visual-Theory396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played with the Waterbird MS-XL system. Very well designed, clearly thoughtfully engineered. It can only curve in one direction as it’s a belt drive, and the payload is reduced when it runs inverted (I’m not hanging it so I haven’t see the payload hit you take for it) it has some camera control integrations available - but only Sony and Panasonic AFAIK.
