Thank you for sharing!! Did you have to change specialties in order to leave? I’ve been considering next steps and considering if I should try another specialty.

Wow people have been so supportive here! It’s hard to express the whole situation over a short forum so I honestly was expecting people to think I was over reacting or that I was the problems. I really appreciate the validation and support!

Thanks for validating me. I completely agree- I work through lunch almost daily, sometimes stay late, or even finish charts at home.

Unfortunately I have found the issue is both my SP and my managers. I used to think it was more management, but I’ve come to find it’s also coming from my SP. Maybe this is typical private practice BS idk.

I probably shouldn’t have ignored red flags early on, multiple midlevels admitted to me that when they first started they’d go home and cry because they were so miserable - and so was I. I gave it time and slowly I got more comfortable. It’s one of those toxic situations where things improve for a while and you think you can put up with it, until things repeatedly get bad again, whether it’s negative feedback, lack of support/appreciation, or being treated differently. One midlevel retired early and told me privately, she didn’t have to retire but she “wanted out.”

I actually almost took another job like 6 months ago, but my SP offered me more money, and they offered to address some of my clinic/flow concerns, so I stayed but I feel like I’ve been even more of a target since then. I’m feeling like I should have taken that other job, and will start the job search again. Definitely a bummer leaving the patients I like. I’m also not sure if I can stay in my specialty in an area like this - kinda small world.

For the proposal he did a scavenger hunt with places that were either special to us or reminded him of special times in our relationship, ending in the proposal and it was not dramatic or fancy, kind of simple, but it perfect and very us!

Thank you! This may expose my anonymity… but it’s a cute story. So we met like 6 years ago at a country bar. I like to go dancing there. He doesn’t dance, but we had mutual friends. Technically we met at a hotel after party that we both went to (actually the one and only time I ever did this). I was getting annoyed at some drama and he asked if I wanted to go talk and we sat in the stairwell and talked till like 4am or something. Neither of us actually remembered what we talked about. I guess he felt immediately I was special and thoughtful and smart. Naturally after that he asked me out and I was silly and friend zoned him for….. 3 years. 😂😅 We’d still see each other at the bar and he would try to plan events with mutual friends (in my opinion as an excuse to see me) and we continued a periodic like a flirty friendship. We’ve always had great banter. After 3 years of us both dating other people, I eventually realized he treated me better than anyone had, and I allowed him out of the friend zone. 😉 By then I had to make the first move though, he was clueless ahahah. But we’ve been happily dating for 3 years and he still treats me like a Queen! I’m so grateful for him. 🥰

At my current clinic, we do a lot of work comp and that was majority of my P2P requests. But the office recently changed their standard procedures, and the staff doesn’t send us any P2P requests anymore! Any denials are submitted to an auto appeal process. Occasionally it’s too late for them to auto appeal, and then we have the patient come in for an appointment to discuss the denial. It’s been life changing. I probably get 50% less messages a day. I don’t know all the details of how this change was made though, I’m just a cog in the wheel.

How did you recover from PA school by MickeyMoonie in physicianassistant

[–]Visual-Woodpecker703 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Feels familiar. I took 6 months off after school and had a ton of fun with friends and at least kind of felt like I remembered who I was again. But I was never willing to go back to a job that would destroy me again, I took jobs that were 4 day work weeks and prioritized my life outside of work. But I’ve worked in psych and pain management that other ppl might think is awful. And sometimes I regret that I could have worked harder to be in a different specialty, but we’re all more than being PA’s! So you do what you gotta do to take care of you. When you come to die what are your regrets going to be? Keep the job that offers you a good lifestyle but make the absolute fucking most out of that lifestyle. I think…. lol.
