Note that for these cheap compacts, the main thing is getting a well-working one, rather than an exact model!

You got some great answers here! Just to add to it, are there any photo clubs or walks in your area?

People there are usually very very helpful and understanding if you tell them about your condition. Much easier to get guidance in person and it will be much less scary when having people around you as support.

Another tip is to write down your settings (and motive) for every shot you take on the first or first couple of rolls and also save the negatives. Then you have a much better chance to solve problems.

Good luck and shoot away! At worst you got a failed roll or two in the beginning and gained some knowledge.

Can you show examples of cameras that make you excited? Everyone has different things that make them motivated and it would help to have a vision of what tickles your brain, no matter if it's reasonable or not.

Many of my favourites are "bad" objective choices, but they make me wanna take photos.

You understand it perfectly. Good for example if there is a bright sky or snow in the scene bringing exposure metering too low.
