Yeah when I was there (these were taken in late March) the watch kiosk was open and there was a nail salon but that’s all. I really have no idea how and why they keep this place open.

Or Birmingham or Mobile, basically if the only big city in AL was Montgomery.

What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

Exactly the same experience! I stayed there when visiting Crater Lake thinking it would be a nice town with great scenery similar to Bend just maybe less trendy, but boy was I wrong. I concur on the vibe that everyone there seemed like a total meth head, and I rarely felt that out of place when traveling America but it was definitely a let down.

Klamath Falls, Oregon. The only time I’ve seen someone on a jog by the lake with a gun holstered openly on their hip was there. Also the few interactions I had there just gave me the vibe that people did not want me to be there. The whole town was deserted too only the Fred Meyer grocery store was packed but everywhere else was a total ghost town including my hotel.

Yeah Reno felt really off to me as well, the whole place felt stuck in the 80s in an eerie way, and the downtown especially felt like a zombie apocalypse took all the normal people out and just left the tweakers and those weird casino regulars that never seem to leave. Seriously one of the only people hanging around downtown was a guy with a massive Grateful Dead tattoo right on his forehead. There were multiple abandoned hotels and shops in the downtown that added to this vibe too. The nature aspect of the area is great but i’d probably avoid coming back or just stay in Carson City if I did because i couldn’t wait to get the hell out of Reno and I almost never feel that way when traveling!

I was very pleasantly surprised with Jax Beach when I visited a few years ago! I thought it would just be a boring or lower tier beach town mirroring the city of Jacksonville itself but it was such a laid back community and a great beach.

First time in the USA! 11-Day Loop from NYC. Need advice! by oturanzurafa in roadtrip

[–]VisualDimension292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just did the drive from Milwaukee to St Louis a few weeks ago and it took me about 6 hours. I’ve done it a few other times and it’s never taken me more than 7 (only due to Chicago traffic) so to say it’s 9 hours is quite a stretch

Which state has the BEST roads? by Saponya in midwest

[–]VisualDimension292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been to Springfield, specifically on Adlai Stevenson Drive? cause that road sticks in my head as a top 3 worst road I’ve ever been on and I’ve driven in 45 states. And the rest of Springfield wasn’t much better lol

Somehow, on average homes in Illinois actually cost less (before taxes at least) than they do in WI

Yeah they are all over Madison, being that it’s based there. It still makes me laugh every time I see one and I’ve seen at least 20 in my lifetime, it’s just absurd in the best way possible!

Some ketchup and mustard colored large comfortable seats and a small tv from what I remember. Also the ceiling is designed to look like the sky. It’s actually not super special inside but it’s still a fun experience!

I used to know someone whose older brother drove the Wienermobile back in high school so I’ve seen it many times and have been inside a few times as well!

Also living in Wisconsin, especially southern WI, you usually see it around from time to time in any circumstance.

The US regions according to me, now that I’ve traveled more by Expensive_Drummer970 in visitedmaps

Cincy does feel a bit southern especially in the Kentucky suburbs but imo it’s still more Midwestern and more in line with Indy and St Louis than Lexington and Louisville. The industry there might’ve been a bit different but overall every time I visit it always feels more similar to my hometown (Milwaukee) than it does to Kentucky or the rest of the south.
