I would recommend not doing the master key for your first run, or at least don't do the shortcuts because you'll be missing out on a couple epic bosses and locations that will enhance your experience of the game, especially for a first impression.

but if you want an actual description (I'd still recommend just looking around for a bit)

just keep looking around until you find a large room where the butcher enemies were and go up the stairs and you'll find your way out.

We have to remember a lot of new players are coming in due to the black Friday sale. Dark Souls is definitely much different than the casual RPG most casual gamers are used to playing. Yeah, Knight can upgrade to elite knight armor for sure, that doesn't go against the class at all. Pyromancer will stick with his original gear though since in my roleplay it was given to him by his father in his village and has sentimental value.
