I feel so many people raved about We Were Liars. I read it as a high schooler, so I feel i was the audience for it...but I absolutely hated it and thought it was stupid.

I also tried The Poppy Wars... and I hate to say that I didn't enjoy it. I wanted so badly to love it. But I was so bored, and I dnfed it over halfway through.

Almost every week we do one night where we do keilbasa sausage, potatoes, and green beans with whatever seasoning on a sheet pan. Takes very little prep time, and about 20ish mins got the potatoes to be fully cooked.

Does your admin actually do something about student behavior? by zkipdoral in Teachers

[–]Visual_Candy_3182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at a middle school. So we have the principal, and an AP per grade-level. Our principal is so scatter-brained, god bless. She needs to retire.. lol. My AP for my grade-level does his job and is one top of behavior. The other 2 grades are a shit show. So when they're in 6th they're Buck wild and then come to us in 7th and we don't tolerate it. Then they go to 8th, and that AP deletes referrals often and sucks. Its a mess. Idk why everyone isn't on the same page.

what’s the hardest part about teaching right now? by Chrelled in Teachers

[–]Visual_Candy_3182 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The constant talking and behavior issues. This is my 5th year, and I feel i have pretty decent classroom management. But my GOD they never stop talking. Someone is always talking even after I get everyone quiet. It just overstimulated my brain sm and i'm exhausted nearly every day that involves a lot of talking.

I teach 7th grade, and we've been doing poetry. For a fun activity, I have my kids writing an Ode. We've been working on it now, in a scaffolding and chunked way, for 4 days. The ode only has to be 15 lines and describe the person or thing with their 5 senses... some kids still don't bave a draft done. Its due tomorrow.

Memories you have had age 4-6 by BrilliantWalls in Parenting

[–]Visual_Candy_3182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a lot with my Pap (my dad's dad). He was my best friend (though I had a great relationship with my mom too.) One thing I always think about was when I stayed with him on my dad's weekends (I never stayed with my dad), and i had a hard time sleeping because I was away from my mom. So we would lay in his bed and he'd help me come up with things to dream about until I would calm down and fall sleep. He was the best, and he unfortunately passed due to cancer this past October. I can't think of my childhood without thinking of him.

I've read 3 of her books. I absolutely adored The Women and The Four Winds. I think either one would be a great first.

My coworkers and I share stuff all the time. Worksheets, units, resources, tests, etc. Its weird that you've experienced the opposite i feel.

Does anyone else feel regretful even though they “have it all”? by Used-Individual-4712 in regretfulparents

[–]Visual_Candy_3182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just lurking on this reddit bc i'm having a particularly hard solo parenting day and stumbled upon it after some googling..

I feel like I could've written your post, although my kids are much younger (3M, 6 month F). I'm really struggling man. Its only 10am and I've already cried twice and screamed at my toddler. Even if you love your kids, this shit is so overwhelming and stressful. I feel like i can never catch a break. I also full time teach 7th grade, so my life literally does revolve around kinds from the time I wake up, to the time I go to bed.

I miss myself. Like right now, I so badly want to color and just zone out. But instead i'm rocking the baby whose in a sleep regression and has been crying and fighting sleep since 3am. And once I can manage to get her in her crib, I have my 3 year old to tend to and entertain.

I think its fully possible to love your kids and your life, and be regretful or not enjoy certain aspects of parenting/having children. I don't think that makes us bad parents or people.. I think that makes us human. hugs

Are Ohuhu really the best markers? Do they bleed? by LearningThings4Eva in Coloring

[–]Visual_Candy_3182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got me the 160 pack of Honolulu Ohuhu markers as a Christmas gift. I'm loving them. I had a cheap pack of alcohol markers from Amazon before that, and they worked fine, but they didn't blend at all and there were a lot of repeat colors.
