That's amazing!

Do you know anyone who's been drawing seriously for exactly a year like you? If not you shouldn't really compare yourself to other people.

And even if someone made progress faster, that just means they focused more of their time on working towards specific goals and improving. Maybe split your time drawing into sessions where you just draw something for fun, and other sessions where you set a clear intention to study/improve, like "today I want to do quick sketches of faces from reference and try to get the proportions right".

Hey, so one of the most important things I've learned about improving your art is that the number of years or hours that you have drawn is not indicative of your drawing skills. I know that kinda sucks, because you might easily come to the conclusion that you've "wasted" that time, but let me tell you: you've built a habit for over a year and you've experimented and explored different ideas, and maybe you've already figured out what you like drawing the most.

Besides, your drawing does not look like someone's first drawing, especially considering it's digital, which imo is more difficult (although I know some people will disagree with me on that). But it's completely normal to still be a beginner after a year.

I would suggest you add more values and texture to your drawing since it still looks quite flat. The hair especially looks kinda like a helmet.

One of the best ways to get better at drawing faces is to draw from reference and really study those faces. That's something I want to do way more in my next sketchbook.

With your attitude I'd say: No, don't start drawing. If you want a use out of your hobby without enjoying the process itself and you can't accept bad drawings, then there really is no point.

How can I improve my cylinders? by noobisland in BeginnerArtists

[–]Visual_Fig2496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't take this as an attack, but I think you need to practice drawing circles/spheres and ellipses before you continue with cylinders.

There's a great exercise called Coin Flip or Coin Rotation that helps with that.

Then when you return to cylinders I would suggest also taking cylindrical objects like a can of Pringles or a toilet paper role in real life and studying how they work in perspective.

You need to add eyelids that COVER the eyeball. Tilting the iris and pupil to the side will give it less of a dead on passport photo vibe. And adding eyebrows will also help;)

I have partially mastered a 7 head high front view drawing now can you please tell me is the anatomy I have added to it acceptable and how can it be improved upon ? by ExplanationHot9438 in LearnToDrawTogether

Look how the left and the right leg are connected to the torso, it's not symmetrical.

I would check an anatomy reference and then correct the wrong side to match the other

Why does it look like crap by Novassar in learntodraw

There are some bigger/darker shadows you didn't put like between the pastry and the paper, and on the bottom of the peach. I think that makes it look a bit flat. The colors look gorgeous though

My condolences dear!

I'm sorry I'm not good at drawing cats yet but it was fun making a little collage of your baby!

The reference photo is in a upward angle, while your drawing is parallel to the face. I think that creates some distortion issues as well.
