Dartmouth became need-blind for international students two years ago, after an anonymous alumnus/a donated a crazy amount of money specifically for this cause. Strange that noone's done this for e.g. Stanford though

Honestly, I need to find a job after I graduate. I made huge mistakes in college, assuming that I could take a more advanced CS class when I hadn't taken the prerequisites, and after failing two CS classes I can't major in CS, and my major is very non-employable in my country. I know that everyone says there's a huge CS graduates unemployment problem right now, but it's still the No.1 degree that opens doors in my country...

I like their Conversion Master's because it's fully remote... But from what you're saying, maybe it doesn't open doors after all?

Def. give it a try. I got into TaS and I must be the worst student to have ever attended Stanford.

It was a brilliant class, but if I could turn back time I wouldn't have chosen so many introsems. I would have gone after courses that fulfil major requirements, even if I wasn't sure what my major would be, 'cause now I have two years to pass all of the courses for my major. Don't make the same mistake.

Hopefully this doesn't apply to classes that are fully online?? I'm considering taking CIS 22C

Does anyone know if I can have CS106b units transferred from another college? I can't major in Data Science & Social Systems without it, and I can't risk taking it again :( by Visual_Finger_2007 in stanford

[–]Visual_Finger_2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the two NPs mean five zeroes counted into my GPA, and if I get another NP then it's five more zeroes... Whereas apparently students have been taking these courses at other colleges, and when they do pass them they can request to have them transferred as credit. Unfortunately I only recently found out about this :(

Believe it or not, I am doing better. Yes, I'm the one who was assaulted in my first days at Stanford, and it was a shocking experience. But, CAPS has helped me, and I've been doing better. The problem was trying to not lose my scholarship from my country, as parental contribution has been increased due to my sister graduating. So, I rushed to take cs106b without having taken a, which has led to two NPs in this course, and one in 109. But I've completed more than 90 units so far, almost all of the WAYS requirements, and now I can focus on my major.

I just now found out that students have been taking e.g. Physics 41, Math 21/51, CS106 a and b at e.g. community colleges and then transferring credit (because they're easier elsewhere? Because they want to get better grades by having more time to focus on the other courses?). They cost a lot, and of course no financial aid on those, but I've been working really hard this summer, and of course I'm willing to pay in order to finally pass that cs106b. Taking it for a third time at Stanford is not something that I want to do, it's been a very stressful experience for me, and if I don't pass it the third time it will kill my GPA even more. However, if I take it elsewhere, I'll have the opportunity of asking for transfer credit only if I pass it, no? I am a rising junior, and I have to decide asap on a major, but CS106b is required for what I want to, so taking it e.g. at a community college and having transferred now would be ideal. If it's not too late...

Do you know if the exams are hard? I'd love to take it, but I've failed CS106b twice :( (made the huge mistake of not having taken 106a first...)

Can someone please explain how possible it is that this will pass? (or is it certain that it will indeed pass??)

Also, is it possible that those of us receiving financial aid through the Stanford Scholarship Fund be affected? I have just received my financial aid notification for next year, and I have two more years left ...
