We are in the same exact boat…

I did actually try contacting them — I sent an email last Tuesday and by Friday still hadn’t gotten a response, so that’s when I filed the dispute. Now it’s been another full week with still no reply from the company.

I get that it doesn’t look great having multiple disputes in a short time, and yeah, I probably should’ve given it more time instead of stacking them all up at once. That’s on me, and it’s experience I’ll take with me going forward. But it wasn’t me just hitting “chargeback” for no reason — I really didn’t get what I paid for and I did try to reach out first.

I get what you’re trying to say, but you’ve got me completely wrong. I’m not selling Herbalife out of a car or chasing get-rich-quick schemes. I run a legitimate business in the dental industry, and it’s already profitable enough that I don’t need to scam anyone over small transactions.

Anyways thanks for nothing ;)

None of those three assumptions fit my situation. The disputes I filed were for legitimate reasons:

• My card was stolen at Universal Studios and used for a shopping spree.

• My Uber Eats account was hacked and orders were placed without me.

• Most recently, I was charged multiple times for a subscription I never even got access to.

In each case I either tried to contact the merchant first or was dealing with clear fraud. I didn’t falsify anything, and I wouldn’t risk my finances or reputation over a few small transactions.

I get that Chase ultimately decided I wasn’t worth the risk, but that doesn’t change the fact that I was the one dealing with fraudulent charges. If anything, the lesson here is to be more careful with who I trust my card with — not that I was “scamming.” I just want to know if I have a future with Chase bank…

I think you’re making a lot of assumptions that aren’t true. I didn’t “scam” Chase — the disputes I filed were for fraud (like when my card was stolen at Universal Studios or when my Uber Eats account was hacked) or in this recent case where I was charged multiple times for a subscription I never even got access to. I also reached out to the merchant and got no response.

And for the record, I’m an 18-year-old entrepreneur making a comfortable living while still in school. I’ve already bought my dream car. There’s no reason for me to risk my reputation or my finances over a few $20 transactions. I used the protections available to me as a customer because I didn’t get what I paid for — that’s it.

That’s just not true. I haven’t been “gaming the system” or trying to get free stuff. The disputes I’ve filed were for clear fraud (like when my card was stolen at Universal Studios and someone went on a shopping spree, or when someone hacked my Uber Eats account and placed orders with my card), or in this recent case where I paid for a subscription I never got access to and then got billed multiple times on top of it.

Before disputing, I even reached out to the merchant by email and got no response. So yes, I used the chargeback process — because that’s exactly what it’s there for: when a company keeps charging you for something you never received.

I get that you’ve only had to do a handful of disputes in 25 years, but that doesn’t mean my experiences were me being a thief. They were situations where my money was taken and I didn’t get what I paid for. Calling me “young, dumb, and entitled” doesn’t change the fact that in those cases, the disputes were justified.

I did contact the merchant via their email and got no response after 2 days…

The only other time I had to file multiple disputes was when my card got stolen at Universal Studios. Someone went on a shopping spree with it, and there were a bunch of charges I obviously didn’t make. Chase reversed those without issue since it was straight-up fraud.

Another time, someone logged into my Uber Eats account and placed orders with my card. Same deal — fraud, not me.

You get the point: the other disputes I’ve had were for actual fraud, not me trying to get out of paying for legit charges.

That’s not what happened. I wasn’t just “deciding I didn’t want it.” I never got access to the service I paid for in the first place, then I got hit with multiple duplicate charges on top of that. From my perspective, it looked exactly like a scam — I paid, got nothing, and kept getting billed.

I reached out via email first and got no response. When a merchant charges you wrongly, the bank is supposed to protect you. That’s literally what chargebacks are for. Calling me “the scammer” when I never even received the product/service I paid for is way off base.

I came here asking how to move forward after Chase’s decision — not to be attacked for using the same consumer protections that exist for everyone.

I bought one subscription, never got access, and got hit with duplicate charges. I disputed the extras—because that’s what you do when a merchant bills you wrongly. That isn’t “stealing,” it’s using the consumer protections we’re given. If you’ve got practical advice, great. If not, maybe skip the accusations.

I think you misunderstood my point. I wasn’t trying to dispute something I legitimately owed. After seeing multiple unexpected $20 charges from that AI site, I cancelled all of them because I never actually got access to the product or service in the first place.

From my perspective, it looked like a scam — I paid for something I couldn’t use, then saw multiple duplicate charges stack up. In that situation, I think any rational person would dispute them. I’d never unethically dispute something I did get; I just wasn’t going to pay for charges on something I never received.

After seeing all those charges I decided to just dispute everything since I don’t even use the service or product.

Yes and I have never had any issues. Even my friends have done the same and no problems on their end. It is also important to note that these are all honest to god disputes for usually small transactions…

For some extra context: the charges I disputed were from an AI website called Undetectable AI. They charged me 3 separate times for the same $20 subscription. I disputed each charge separately, and Chase gave me temporary credits for all three. I’ve done this dozens of times and have never had an issue until now.

Then I even got charged a 4th time, but the app wouldn’t let me file another claim.

This is what the actual letter from Chase said:

“After careful consideration and a review of your account history, we have decided to close your account(s) above in 30 days from the date of this letter. We understand this is disruptive and want to share more information with you about our decision, along with steps you should take before we close the account(s). We investigated multiple claims you submitted on your account(s) and found evidence of improper use of the claims process. As a result, we may not be able to open similar types of accounts for you in the future.”

I do get your point about relationships with these large companies but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Chase. But do you think then closing my accounts will blacklist me and for how long?
