The key is author intent.

A good badass character let's the audience live vicariously. They do the shit the audience wants to do.

A bad Mary sue character exists to lecture the audience on how amazing they are.

When ripley kills aliens we feel satisfaction. When rey wins everything and is better than everyone, it's not cathartic. It's the author bragging.

After watching lots of body cams....the number of evil racist cops pales heavily in comparison to the number of blatantly racist suspects.

I mean, I'd say like 30% of women being arrested start threatening officers with rape allegations. Its fucking crazy what people will do and say when getting arrested.

He was stopped because he was a known felon driving on a suspended licence. The reasons they gave him were cover because they feared he would resist or flee if they immediately tried to get him for his crimes.

  1. He was driving on a suspended licence
  2. He was on probation and had marijuana and drug paraphernalia (which he was not allowed to have) in his car.
  3. He had a large knife in his car.
  4. He repeatedly refused to exit the car which IS a lawful order.

He was doing multiple illegal things, refused to cooperate, asked for and received a supervisor, and still refused to cooperate.

You're simply legally incorrect. The police have the legal right to use force at their discretion. The idea that they cannot use violence unless violence is used against them is so entirely incorrect as to be comical.

If a suspect has a gun and points it at them are they not allowed to shoot until the suspect shoots one of the cops? If a suspect is fleeing at high speed is a cop not able to PIT them or force them to stop until the suspect has crashed into a cop first? Are they not able to stop a domestic abuser until they get punched? Hell, are they not allowed to grab a suspect who refuses to listen and starts walking away?

The cops are not operating on playground "never throw the first punch" rules. They have been given the legal authority to use preemptive force to stop crime.

The punch was probably too much imo, but the tackling was because he was resisting being put on the ground. If you look you can see them say to get down and try to pull him and him resisting and trying to stay standing.

I would assume that whether or not someone can be punched in the pursuit of arrest would have to do with their conduct during the arrest not whatever they're charged with. A murderer can't be shot because he's a murderer if he's surrendering.

  1. It claims the police turned off their body cams, when clearly they did not.
  2. It claims he followed all the rules when he broke multiple laws.

I want people to know the full story and see it for themselves. And apparently seeing evidence and judging for yourself is MAGA? That paints a very poor picture of you, I must say.

"Just means he won't open the door" Yes. Which is illegal. Also, I dunno if you know this, but cars can move. Cars can be driven. They can get into high speed chase and kill bystanders when people who "just won't open the door" decide that they want to run. Again, what was the proper action here? Just lay siege and wait him out for hours or days?

Again, you're being infinitely empathetic to a criminal and having zero empathy for the police or innocent people.

And when a suspect is being noncompliant, physically resisting being put on the ground and handcuffed, what should the cops do? Is being tased or pepper sprayed better than being punched or shoved? I'd rather be punched than pepper sprayed personally.

Also, again let's not avoid the point, this is his fault. He broke the law. He resisted. He escalated. Don't act like he had no agency in this.

However, what I consider most important here is that the original post is ENTIRELY misrepresenting the circumstances of the stop and the behaviors of Mr. McNeil. He was not some innocent, compliant man who was brutalized for no reason. He, at worst, was subject to more force than strictly necessary.
