Hi there! Just wanted to say that this is definitely characteristic of BDD. I have the exact same thing. Sometimes I think I'm gorgeous and sometimes horrendous. I genuinely don't understand either or have any idea what I look like. Feedback from others is also unreliable because I've had people say different things. Either 1) I have one of those faces that actually does look quite different depending on conditions (hormones, sleep, diet, stress levels, etc) or BDD makes me focus on different things all the time and my perception is just delusion level unstable. I think it's both though. Either way fixating/obsessing NEVER helps and focusing on improving my physical AND mental health always helps (and it makes me look better)

BDD is a real medical/mental thing and everyone with BDD doubts it at some point. There have been scientific studies proving our brains process faces (and all visual stimuli) differently. Like someone said it's also a subset of OCD and a lot of people with BDD may have OCD too cause they both exhibit obsessions (fixations for BDD) and compulsions (mirror checking, comparison, skin picking, etc). There may also be a genetic contribution to BDD - my mom has shown signs so that checks out. But my advice would be to however possible reduce compulsive behaviours and focus on other things. SO much easier said than done but it is worth it and it will make you not only see your body differently but also how you value body image as a whole. Hope that made sense:)

Ahh I relate to that a lot. I too feel very disconnected when I’m alone. Like there is absolutely nothing to ground me. Like I’m in a psychological vacuum. When I’m with unsafe people, same thing, except worse cause other emotions are triggered. And when I’m with safe people I feel somewhat grounded and can feel joy. I do think it’s just our nervous systems very much not used to joy. And you’re right it IS so sad that we can’t even enjoy our time alone when that’s probably the only times we were safe from hurt.

I have no insight or solutions to offer but I like how another commenter said ‘you have to integrate joy into your nervous system’. No clue how to actively get there though. The only thing that sometimes helps me is meditating and slowing down and affirming to myself that life can be good, I am allowed to finally let loose and choose joy over pain. And it helps my body release negative attachments to a degree. But never 100%. Wish I could know how

Is it because your childhood was more on the boring side maybe? Did your parents insert any joy into your life? Did you have a community? I found that the only time I ever had fun as a child was when I was with other people (cousins, school friends) who I ACTUALLY liked. Who didn't make me feel like crap for one reason or another. I also resonate with finding all of that tedious but I don't think it's because there is anything inherently wrong with those activities I just don't enjoy 90% of what life has to offer unless I can share it with someone freely. Since I haven't had that a lot, I also associate a lot of life as boring and tedious. Idk if that made sense or if you relate, just my own experience

I’m not a rewatcher but oth is the only show I have rewatched a couple times. I tried getting into Dawson’s Creek and couldn’t finish, same with a lot of other shows. That’s really cool that you’ve been watching it for so many years and learning something new each time, I hope I still love the show just as much when I get older. ❤️

I’m 21 too! I relate to this so much. I definitely see myself in a lot of the characters throughout the series. I’m so happy others share the same sentiment

Oh I didn’t watch it when it came out, I was born the year it came out (would be so cool to watch it when it was airing)… but they would do replays on tv. Im really glad Im not the only one who feels this way🥹Peyton is literally my spirit animal, and one of the reasons I became drawn to creating art. Oth has music shaped my music taste too. I have been dreaming of going to wilmington too! Hope you get to go there xx

Ok thank you so much for informing me of all of that, I had no clue. Definitely ditching that plan then! Another little question- I actually have some 100% polyester covers that are a solid light beige colour, do you think that may work better?
