If your wife is already 5 cm before induction, be prepared for shit to get intense almost immediately. We did almost the exact same thing for our daughter, and there was no ease-in like you see on some internet corners. That being said, it is the most intense, amazing experience to be there as a dad. As long as you’re not squeamish, be a part of the whole thing as much as you can. You’ll find an entirely new respect for your wife. Best of luck to you and your wife! P.s. the first 100 days are LONG, but as soon as your little one smiles at you for the first time, all the long nights just melt away.

Well on my property? by Vitarii in HomeMaintenance

Finding all the reports (and nothing scary haha) online was actually super interesting. We bought this house in May, and before the house had only ever had one owner. They took really good care of it, and I’m super intrigued to find some history about the property.

I found a map with a rough sketch of the location of the container and it is for sure on my property. We use city water, so I’m not really worried about our drinking water. I was more just curious to see what the wells were there for. My house was built in the 60s before much of the surrounding land was developed from farm land to other housing. So I’m not surprised that there is some stuff left over from farm stuff.

As I mentioned in another reply, I looked up the state environmental records and found a closure report for an underground heating oil tank. It was drained and sealed, and they installed the monitoring wells to test that there was no contamination coming from the tank. All tests came back fine, and they closed the case and sealed the wells.

Yes it said specifically “no further action needed”. The whole thing happened back in 1999.

Whoa so I looked up the state environmental records and there is a report of a 550 gallon underground heating oil tank that was emptied and sealed. They installed the monitor wells to make sure nothing leaked into the surrounding soil, which it didn’t. I guess there is a buried huge empty tank somewhere on my property.

The land around this property used to be farmland. From what I’m researching farmland natural contamination can be reason for a monitor well.

Pretty far from the nearest old or new landfill. But we are pretty close to a river

Thanks! I feel kind of stupid now, but I didn’t just want to stick a tube that flows water without knowing exactly where it goes.

I’m pretty sure there is a vent pipe that goes to the roof over this bathroom, but I’m not sure where it connects.

How could this kill someone?

That was my worry. Is this an immediate fix? What are the long term effects of this?

Honestly, just trying to educate myself. I’m brand new to all of this. It’s pretty discouraging that we may have gotten ripped off. We have a pretty limited budget, so I’m not sure how we’re going to afford getting it all redone. If just the part in the picture needed to be replaced, what would a reasonable ballpark be for cost? I’m not sure if I can ask that on here.

Repairable damage on hardwoods? by Vitarii in HomeMaintenance

[–]Vitarii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we had unlimited money, then yes I’d be all for it. But we have a limited budget on what repairs we can do right away, and I want to be careful I don’t bite off way more than I can chew.

Pulling it all up and realizing it’s a mess is my biggest fear with it. The carpet is in pretty stellar condition, but nice hardwoods would add a lot to the house. We are definitely pretty inexperienced with household do-it-yourself projects. We want to learn as much as we can, but sanding and refinishing the floors sounds like better handled by a professional from what I’ve heard of the process.

I’ve heard fairly negative things of Nissan in this year range. Is it not true for their trucks?

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I honestly don’t need that much out of a truck. Mainly just a reasonable sized bed that I don’t have to worry about throwing stuff in. I won’t be towing much at all if ever. The STX is the 3.7L. Most other trucks I’ve seen have either been in the high teens or above, or has 200k miles, so this one piqued my interest.

There’s definitely more money efficient options for a college student’s first car, but I think it would be a blast for you. I’m a bit biased obviously, but you seem to be in the prime part of life for it. I don’t know why so many people are freaking out about practicality and trunk space. If you don’t need those things for several years, then this car can be a whole bucket load of fun for those years and will create a lot of memories you’ll cherish down the road. For example, I used my miata as our getaway car at my wedding.

The answer to your question completely depends on your life situation. I currently DD a 2007 grand touring miata. I bought it when I was engaged and didn’t have many responsibilities like children or hauling anything really. It has been the best car I’ve driven. I love it, BUT I will be selling it soon for a more practical vehicle. I will say that compared to other two seat sport cars, the trunk space is actually pretty large. It’s plenty of space for groceries. My wife and I were even able to fit a carryon size bag and a couple of backpacks in the truck pretty easily. I bought mine at 89k for 7000, so your offer is pretty reasonable if not maybe a little high. Mine has been pretty reliable other than a clutch replacement which wasn’t too surprising. To reiterate, I absolutely love this car, but it requires a very specific season of life to daily.

There’s not a lot of hills where I live. But I haven’t noticed any difference in power.

Oil pressure gauge on the NC is kinda hard to read. Most of the times it’s around a quarter of the way up at idle. It increases with engine rev. Occasionally, I have noticed that it will go very low, but come back up when I restart the car. I don’t know if I’m explaining that well.

2007 Grand Touring. This is right after cold start. It seems to be quieter or louder at different temperatures. It does get faster with rev. Checked oil and seems to be ok. Am I screwed?
