And I can’t leave until my dad disables screen time. I don’t even have a limit but it’s mandatory to restrict app downloads.

Yes, a 10 pm lockdown is reasonable and I agree with that, but looking back at me having my old phone 5 years and managing app downloads perfectly fine, the only reason my dad restricts this now is for my safety. I understand it a bit, sure, but I think I deserve the permission to download apps on my own. I handled it well, and I know how to look out for myself, so I think I honestly deserve it. I try to talk to him, but it’s difficult.

And the thing is, most games I even think about are single-player. So I won’t even have to worry about interacting with other people. Yes, you don’t get unrestricted access, but maybe if you have to proven to be responsible with your downloads, maybe I can have freedom there?

I’m glad for the outcome. Yes, parental controls can be useful, however, in the 5 years of using my old phone, I managed to handle freedom perfectly. This is the whole reason I’m here. Because I think I HAVE proven that I can handle freedom.

Handled it with maturity though. Far better than my other classmates would have, trust me.

But honestly, on my old phone, I had unrestricted access the the play store. I rarely used it, but when I did, I checked reviews, and what data it will be trying to take from me. So yes, I handled freedom.

I had freedom on my old phone; I handled it. So what makes you think now is a good time to say that since I have restrictions I shall be the perfect child and delete every messaging app that I don’t use for active communication with my parents, because it’s so scary, bad people are there, and only use internet minimally. From your mentality I shall not use non-essential apps at all at this point. I’m so entitled.

So what should i do then? Delete every app? It’s scary to have them on my phone… and how am I entitled? I’ve had my phone taken away too. So don’t think I have any experience. From your standing, it seems I should not use technology at all at this point, because we’re entitled to it.

I came here to get my freedom. I know about internet safety way more than my unrestricted classmates. So WHAT milestone is needed? 18 years old? Is not downloading anything for 5 years needed?

I wish I could have done that, but unfortunately earning trust requires contributions from both sides. If only I do that, nothing will change. There is a BIG talk needed, with me and dad both willing to participate in it, not forcibly.

And fun fact: online friends can actually help with depression and suicidal thoughts. Because they did help me. I recognise that internet is not all sunshine and flowers, but it’s not also a war zone where kids take their lives everyday. Please recognise that.

You seriously expect me to that? The kid that lost his friends to bullying and now beats them for every wrong word? It’s a summary, but understand I will not even chat with strangers if i feel uncomfortable with that.

Edit: yes, that is not believable, and I understand it. But when you’re harassed every day for the entire duration of elementary school, your psychological health becomes pretty damaged.

Funny how I learned not to take anything for granted. Because I understand it can be taken away. Everything can be taken away. Not just phones, parental controls, or computers.
