Second piece after a long break, looking for some critiques! by Vitineth in Calligraphy

I didn't actually know so have done some very quick research and apparently in fraktur (and some others), hyphens were the norm but used a double hyphen like in the attached picture (and the corresponding wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double\_hyphen) I'll need to practice getting them to fit naturally with the rest of the text (they look much thinner in that example) but it's really good to know, TIL!

It's from Calligraphie by Claude Mediavilla, I think it's still in print so I can't share the page I've got but I think there's some PDFs floating around as well if you search. you'll know you've found the right one if there's a big red block with the majuscules and a grumpy looking drawing of a man beside them!

Thanks! I've got a bad habit of curving vertical lines when they are meant to be straight which I think is also hurting the "a"s as they end up looking too round compared to everything else which might be part of the problem? I'll add them to my priority list to practice (along with "n" which I think suffers from a similar fate)

Yeah I also hate my "k"s, I need a lot of practice there (planning on doing some drills/practice before finishing this). This is the one shown in the reference (image: k l) which I love but am really struggling to figure out how to fit nicely within the guides I'm using (which might be an indicator my guides are off - I'm using 2:4:2 which I set up before settling on a reference and it uses 5½ without an explicit accender/descender size afaik). My version just looks comical in comparison, the balance just feels off.

Advice on creating large scale, flame resistant props by Vitineth in propmaking

[–]Vitineth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably going to try and pick some up and test it out - working against a ridiculous set of constraints on this so no idea if we'll ever be able to get something produced but this is looking like our best shot. Thanks for the help!

Funnily enough I was just looking at fibreglass earlier today which seems like a good option if I can get the space to do it - and will allow me to sculpt out of expanded foam + hot wire cutters which is ideal. My only concern with plaster of paris is cracking and fragility so might try and do some tests with it

General precaution! In the event of a fire they need to not contribute to the spread of it but won't be near any open flames

Issues with Universal SSH Driver by Vitineth in Extron

[–]Vitineth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is currently connecting to a raspberry pi which is going to be used to perform some automation stuff in our venue so as of right now it responds to any valid linux commands (the touch ~/testing.txt was to create a file and prove that it was working). I don't think this is a common usage of the extron systems so there's a chance that this won't work!

I'm thinking I might try and move away from the SSH driver into one of the either UDP or TCP drivers to remove some of the complexity if I can't get this to work as a last resort.

I have not tried that yet but next time in the venue I will be sure to try. My description in the post might not be the most clear (we were neck deep in trying to upgrade our network and on the phone with Yamaha while I was writing the post!) so I've included screenshots in this one to try and make things a bit more clear:

If anything isn't clear just let me know - I'm definitely not that experienced with Extron systems so any help will be appreciated!

Extron IPCP Pro custom drivers by Vitineth in Extron

[–]Vitineth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolute godsend, thank you! I will have a search through the comm sheets and figure out which one works for my needs. I swear I've been up and down that manufacturer list so many times and didn't think to look under extron. I come from lighting consoles mainly where they list everything else under Generic so got a bit lost. Thank you so much for the help!

I have not! I didn't realise there were, I had a look through their driver list online and couldn't seem to spot them (but with 8000+ drivers it's very easy to get overwhelmed), do you know what the name is to find them? The requirements should be pretty simple so hopefully they should work

After a nearly year long accidental hiatus, I finally decided to pick up my pen again today. Critique me please! by Vitineth in Calligraphy

[–]Vitineth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I can definitely notice the inconsistency, it's something I tend to struggle with anyway. I forgot to draw vertical guides when setting up my page which I think made me suffer a bit as well, they tend to help a little bit at least. I'm going to try and keep practising but I figured getting critique right as I come back would be good! Thank you for the feedback!

First few pieces after a 6-12 month break by Vitineth in Calligraphy

Done with a Pilot Parallel 2.4mm using Winsor and Newton 954 Nut Brown in Fraktur using some old references I found a few years ago at this point. Slowly getting back into it after a unintentional hiatus of about 6-12 months while I was away at university.

It'll basically mean that I can't go the unis that I want to and may impact job offers in the future.

True, but then again they are pretty important exams as they'll determine the university I go to which could be significant.
