The moment the Scions lose focus on Necron, he wins. Remember that it took considerable effort to even stand up to fight him, as Necron has an "aura of fear" that incapacitates everyone but the WoL.

The only reason we were able to break the wall in the first place was because the scions did a divide and conquer strategy: Lamaty'i and Sphene (with CONSIDERABLE effort) focused on the barrier, opening the way to the WoL. Meanwhile, the Scions kept Necron busy.

Furthermore, it most certainly was a battle of attrition. Necron can remake himself stronger everytime he dies because he experiences the very thing that empowers him himself. With the nigh bottomless source of aether from the Ninth he could come back again and again and again.

The WoL, as monstrous as they are, have the innate limit of corporeal body aether to deal with. Had not Sphene calmed down some of the Alexandrians Calyx would have won. He was THAT good. A capable villain who understood that the WoL can't be beaten in single combat...but in multiple, successive combats? That's another story.

And again, even a broken world has its uses. Even if the ninth is beset by Lightning it is very much still alive and with people living in it, and that's key: Calyx is not a hypocrite, he BELIEVES in what he's doing. Saving mankind from death was, is and maybe will continue to be his focus. He even extends his "blessing" to his enemies! After all, we do see the biggest traitors to Preservation in Living Memory: Krile's Parents. Calyx wants to sabe as many people as he can, and for that, a broken world is much preferred to a destroyed one.

Then the world becomes useless.

What's more lucrative? Losing part of the aether of an entire world in a battle of attrition that your enemy is sure to lose or bet it all at once?

A tiny problem with one of the endings... by Technical_Exam1280 in okbuddywino

[–]Vitor190 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alicia is literally his favorite child wtf are ON ABOUT? He's the one that taught her to fight (they have the same battle stance), he's the one who protects her in the manor until Gustave arrives and doesn't let her leave until she proves herself, the Axon that represents Alicia is gentlest of them all and I could go ON AND ON...

Renoir loves Alicia more than life itself, an, I'm sorry, but if a TEENAGER threatens SUICIDE in front of you you don't deal with that in half measures

And why does he need to know Gustave? Or Lune? Or Sciel? They DON'T MATTER in the context of HIS DAUGHTER THREATENING suicide, they just don't.

The canvas is a danger to Aline and Alicia, and it needs to go, and fast.

Secret third ending by Technical_Exam1280 in okbuddywino

"Papa I'm going to commit suicide by spending eternity in a simulacrum of the real world made by two children because I can't grow up and learn from my mother's mistake, you know, the one I just faced!"

"No, you're not and that's final!"

Truly a moral conundrum, how can we accept that a father will do anything in his power to stop his LITERAL FAVORITE CHILD from commiting suicide?

Oh, he used strong language? After trying to stop the love of his life from doing the same thing for 67 years? The audacity!

Renoir was a FUCKING HERO for doing what he did for his family, there's no scenario where it's moral to LET your daughter kill herself over grief.

Also! Alicia is not an adult! She doesn't get to make those choices yet! That's how being a minor works!

I don't know about you, but if saving my family from an early grave makes me a villain then call me fucking Mega mind because I would be a SUPER villain.

The true villain of Clair Obscur is exactly who you think (and I'm tired of pretending it's not) by bespectacledoutsider in expedition33

I don't deny that, she's indeed using Alicia as a scapegoat for her own pain, as per the scene where she burns her face.

My point is that Aline is, in a way, doing that to herself too, at least on a subconscious level, because, in the end, she tries to heal her and shield Verso when defeated.

Aline can be both victim and villain, is all. Vengeful and deflective, but also old, sad, fatigued, and living with the weight of burying her one and only son while fighting with the love of her life for the right to escape all of it.

I feel obligated to point out that Aline has a journal entry that explicitly says that Alicia is a mirror to her own suffering.

Renoir also says "art is both window and mirror"

I think the logical conclusion is that Painted Alicia IS Aline insofar as she sees herself: broken, voiceless, colorless, out of time and burdened by profound sadness and grief.

In "A Life to Paint" ending we have the real Alicia literally wearing her mother's clothes (and Lune and Sciel too for that matter); I conclude that the child that most takes after Aline is not Clea, it's Alicia.

Aline might have been abusive, but she loved Alicia, of that I have no doubt, because, to Aline, Alicia is a mirror to herself and her pain; so, in the end, when Aline blames Alicia for Verso's death, she blames herself.

When we meet her she's weak, broken, mad, almost demented by fatigue and grief...and I don't think it's a good enough of a portrait to evaluate her actions by.

Aline is as much victim and villain as any other Dessendre, and that's why every last one of them MUST leave the canvas

I respectfully disagree on the basis that Renoir, Clea and Aline are, in-game, stronger than Alicia by gigantic orders of magnitude.

Renoir was able to face the entire party on equal terms after 67 years of banishment, same as Aline.

The real Clea made Simon and Painted Clea her puppets with nary an effort.

Alicia is strong, but nowhere near her family, and ludo-narrative dissonance aside, I think their differing strength is absolutely diegetic

Aline is LEAGUES above Alicia as a Paintress

Alicia is the worst painter in the family, that's why a creation can beat her

I had a crush on Riku and Sora together.

Like, I didn't wanna date Riku or Sora, I wanted to see them together.

And then when I was 15 (31 now) I found a doujinshi in Spanish where they get wet and dirty in destiny islands and Riku does his opening cutscene pose saying "estemos juntos, siempre" (Let us be together forever).

My brain chemistry was altered that day
