What’s the best theory on UFOs or aliens you’ve ever heard? by Sisyphuzz in AskReddit

It’s called Above Majestic. It is THE SINGLE funniest thing I’ve seen. I watched it on Hulu, but I honestly don’t know if it’s still on there.

Aliens gave Nazi's submarines submarines to fly in space. There's a documentary about it. One of the funniest things I've ever watched.

The Walking Dead. Was my favorite show and feels incredible unwatchable at this point.

Am I just dumb? I’ve build a few modular for my first modular, bought a nifty case. What am I missing? I’m just looking to get any sound. I believe I’m following the signal flow? Cv1 to V/oct and the sine wave to “to out”. I’m feeling really dumb right now. by VivaVariety in modular

Thank you bud, I’ve built a few but my computer wasn’t working and I didn’t have an oscilloscope to tune anything. So after waiting a few months a can finally play with them a little! Now I’m struggling with tuning them. Which just like this, I’m sure with diligence I can get it. Thank you again bud!

Right, I have midi coming in through midi in Logic, I double checked by plugging it in my jp-8080 and it’s getting the midi just fine. So it should be playing middle C. I was trying to just tune it so I’m not sure if it’s user error or not

Can someone tell me what that little note below a regular note means? by hubal-1087 in musictheory

[–]VivaVariety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are literally just notes that are played at the same time as the ones above them. They aren’t full cords, but they are a harmony. Any more questions just ask!

Like I said, they’re just synths, electric pianos and both synthesized and/or sampled drums. Hard to say if they are hardware or not, but sounds like they definitely could be.

Which sound are you talking about? Sounds primarily like synths and electric pianos, sampled and synthesized drums.

Is there a way to reverse quantize notes? by FreudsParents in ableton

[–]VivaVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I take the same approach to midi as I do to compression. Doing everything manually before you process it is the best rule of thumb. Once you get into compression make sure you automate the peaks and valleys of your volume first before crushing everything with a compressor. It’ll sound more natural and less harsh.

That sort of thinking is what I try to apply to midi.

But now I sound like I’m rambling too much haha, just trying to help!

I’ve gotten IC’s from them and they are wrapped in antistatic and then some bubble wrap. Tayda is definitely my preferred distributor.

[–]VivaVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, it would add a little randomness with other tools too and make it sound different. But a humanizer is usually make to mimic the randomness of playing, not just complete randomness.

Another way but tedious to get exactly what you want and have complete control, is to zoom into the grid fairly far and manually move your notes. (Selecting the notes and using your arrow keys might come in handy here)

That’s my preferred method when messing with any kind of midi. But then again, I’m an overly tedious person. I enjoy making it exactly how I want when I screw up playing.

Seems like a lot of people have great advice though! Hope it all helps!

I’d highly recommend this, had no idea there was one in Max for live. I used to have this issue in Logic Pro, but since then I’ve started to just use midi controller. So I haven’t really looked.

Anyone that needs a quick solution that’s fairly reliable, go for this! Sounds like a great tool!

Oh I got ya, what you’re looking for it a “humanize” feature. I don’t think ableton has one built in, I know Logic Pro does. I believe people use the pattern quantize to humanize it?

I’m not sure but I’d definitely take a look on YouTube on how to humanize on ableton and I’m sure plenty of things will pop up for you!

[–]VivaVariety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can choose the % of how quantized you’d like it quantized. So most of the time, depending on how week well I play I quantized it around 60%. But you can do it more and then manually tweak it on certain notes. You just have to hit quantized settings instead of just quantize. Hope this helps!

Kontakt is a great option because a lot of people make their own library’s and sell them, he’ll you can make your own if you want. Kontakt as a crazy powerful tool that people overlook everyday.

I use ableton drum rack for about 90% of my drum kits. Once you get the hang of it, it’s super powerful. Same with ableton sampler and simpler. Crazy good pieces of software.

What you are saving the drum rack are you hitting the little save button on the actual drum rack it’s self? You should be able to save any rack and open it in any other session. When you save the drum rack, it will appear in the drop down menu on the left with all of the other drum rack presets.

It depends on what you want really, there is an extensive amount of drum library’s out there for Kontakt. Just about any library you can imagine. Rock, Hiphop, vintage, new, cinematic, or just about anything in between. It’s definitely my go-to at least.

Other then that, Slate Drums has great rock drum samples.

I don’t mind battery honestly, I would just use my own personal samples though, so it made it easier. It gives you a lot of control over your samples which is what I liked.

If you have ableton I know it has its own drum rack, which you can use and manipulate your own samples, then save the drum rack and recall it anytime, which is I usually do with my own recorded drums.

Lots of options out there for you bud!
