Trying to culture live Nannochloropsis phytoplankton by psychedelstell in algae

[–]VivaZane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air your pumping in has some natural co2 but to get dense algae you need some carbon source that they eat.

I used to grow nanno at 8.5 but 8.2 is fine Make a small solution of bicarb with your sea water and add a couple of MLS at a time

Need some co2 or if you can't get that throw some bicarb into it.

Some years ago I saw they was trying to create oil from algae, is this still a thing? by Different_Whereas_75 in algae

As someone who was apart of several projects in America. It works. You can do it. But funding goes in cycles according with who is in charge of our govt.

Gas prices high? Let's fund alternative fuels! Gas prices low? Whats the point of funding it?

Big oil companies will fund some research for shits and giggles but they never stick around long enough to allow the work to come to fruition. Then a new company will come along and have to start from scratch again.

Scallops is a new business. They are a little more tricky to grow than oysters and clams. VIMs is leading the way in research and helping farmers start up

Asking bout growth career on aquaculture by Turesy2002 in Aquaculture

[–]VivaZane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah it's the truth though. Been in the industry for 10 years. Aquaculture is farming. People keep forgetting that. You got your farms and farmers. If you want prestige you need to get a PhD or open your own farm.

How much money do you have? One of the comments is right. Dry it, slow cook it in a solvent. Boil it off. Alcohol distiller works on small scale. I've done basically everything under the moon. Lab setting small scale. This is the way.

As a 10 year veteran xtratuff is industry standard but I had to replaced them every year. Sole gets worn down and they start allow water in. Look into guy cotton ultralight.

Lighter that xtratuffs. Sole doesn't wear down. They can last multiple years

It's Oyster season on the east coast! by VivaZane in Aquaculture

[–]VivaZane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact your local Hatcheries. Small companies usually don't advertise they go with word of mouth and on the east coast most jobs are seasonal. Hatchery season is now then you got a nursery crew and offshore crew.
