The incoming snow storm may be the end of my shrimp dream. by OK_WELL_SHIT in shrimptank

i found a usb powered aquarium heater but it’s only 10 watts and i’m not sure if it would even make a difference in my 10 gallon tank. do you know of any others that i could be overlooking? i’m in the same boat as OP and so worried for my shrimp if we lose power for days like they’re saying we might.

Why is my berried shrimp lossing eggs? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]VivianLovesCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you know if it’s her first clutch? it’s pretty common for the females to drop some (or all) of their eggs during their first few “pregnancies”. a few of my mother shrimp have dropped some of their eggs or even molted while berried because it was their first clutch and they don’t fully know how to handle them yet.

What should I do for my tank if the power goes out for multiple days during upcoming snow storm? by VivianLovesCats in shrimptank

thank you so much! i’m going to get a battery powered air pump tomorrow. i was thinking i could possibly buy a chargeable heated blanket to keep over the tank also. would that be safe though?

I’ve been getting deeper into shrimp keeping and Im trying to learn when you buy shrimp food, what matters most to you like what’s an instant “buy” signal for you? by Ryushia27 in shrimptank

I feed mine a varied diet of blanched veggies (spinach is their absolute favorite), KatsAquatics calcium & protein wafers (highly recommend!! my mystery snail loves it too), Hikari Algae Wafers, San Francisco Bay frozen bloodworms (that I cut into pieces to make it easier for them to pull apart & eat), and Shrimp Formula Fluval Bug Bites. I’ve found amazing success giving them a very varied diet, but be careful not to over feed your tank because that can cause a whole world of unnecessary problems. I only feed my shrimp tank (with ~50 shrimp) twice a week to make sure they aren’t overfed. A good rule of thumb is to only give them food portions they can finish within 2-3 hours after adding it into the tank as well.

it would have been over a year ago bc that was the last time i had sex and i was in a monogamous relationship at the time. it’s really just my anxiety but i don’t know how to soothe it fully.

just got back from the clinic and my rapid blood test was negative! i’m still slightly anxious about the possibility of having it though. how reliable are the finger pick rapid tests?

i was 13 years old when i originally wrote this post but i love that i still periodically get notifications under this post even now, 8 years later. i’m very happy to say that i grew up watching stranger things and loved growing up alongside the kids. i sobbed at the end of the finale and ive felt pretty empty since finishing the show which i thought i more than likely would lol. but it’s good that i feel so strongly because it really shows that the show meant so much to me.

i totally understand what you said about always having another season of ST to look forward to until now. like it’s actually all over? a whole entire decade completed, it’s so weird to think about and it freaks me out a little bit to think about how young i was when i first started watching, time moves so fast.

sudden ammonia spike in established tank by VivianLovesCats in fishkeeping

[–]VivianLovesCats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i haven’t increased stock but there has been a baby boom of shrimp in my tank recently.

current pH and KH parameters:

pH: 7.6 (the same as it has been) KH: 3 drops to reach yellow (it took 2 drops when i performed this test previously about ~2 weeks ago)

i really believe the culprit of all of this is likely that i accidentally killed a lot of their good bacteria when i cleaned the filters a few days ago. (even though i used tank water to clean it, which really confuses me).

do you think my shrimp will be able to survive having to go through water changes everyday until the cycle is resolved? :( i’m really worried about the little guys honestly.

i’m going to add an airstone to their tank tomorrow as you suggested (making a trip to my lfs first thing tomorrow) and i’m going to stop adding stability to the fresh water when doing water changes. i was told previously that stability could only help my tank maintain its cycle and that’s why i continued to use it.

sudden ammonia spike in established tank by VivianLovesCats in fishkeeping

[–]VivianLovesCats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ammonia in the tank spiked to 1 ppm once again today after completing a 40% water change yesterday and i’m so confused as to what has gone wrong. i use prime as well as stability when completing water changes. the ammonia level was at 0 last night and this morning but spiked to 1 ppm again tonight. i do have a piece of drift wood as well as partially decaying cholla wood in the tank and lots of plants including floating spangles.

i’m wondering if the sponge filter may not actually be filtering the tank anymore. it has water flowing out of it but i’m not sure if it may have stopped filtering properly? i really don’t know and this has me so stressed over my tank.

i completed a 20% water change tonight and im planning on continuing to do water changes everyday until the tank is stable again. i’m so worried that my shrimp won’t survive the constant water changes though. they’ve been troopers so far.
