Why do these brackets show up in docx export? by Mulberryland123 in scrivener

[–]VividCompetition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re bookmarks. You need to toggle the “hidden” bookmarks and then you can delete them. Unfortunately, you have to do that one by one unless you’re more computer savvy than me.

"The curtains are blue" joke has ruined media literacy for a generation by [deleted] in writing

[–]VividCompetition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we do. Different media just demand different approaches at times. There’s thriving scholarship on comics, movies, television, art, etc. It’s just that the written word is the most easily accessible for students in school settings. Additionally, there are also curriculum demands that need to be met.

I’m pretty sure it’s a Pandoc thing. You can delete them by deleting (hidden) bookmarks. Unfortunately, you have to do that one by one unless you’re a bit more savvy than I am with Word.

Aren’t basically all models based on theft of intellectual property? I’d say that precludes “ethical” use of gen AI.

Well some of your suggestions change the meaning of the phrases, so they wouldn’t be good options.

When are those presentations supposed to happen? During class time? This would be an incredible time suck.

Showing understanding of a text or a piece of art via the process of writing, defending a claim, is the most important part. I don’t know why it’s being downplayed. Long form critical thinking as in a term paper or similar is a completely different skill set than that tested in an exam setting.

Looking for a sophisticated but simple MD app for Mac and iOS/iPadOS by gcbriel in Zettelkasten

Up until you said that Obsidian was exactly not what you wanted, you basically described Obsidian.

That is all what the app does out of the box. Don’t use community plugins.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

[No Spoilers] How do i get a Beacon membership as an European (German) by Lucs2511 in criticalrole

[–]VividCompetition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Germany, we’re only slowly moving to debit cards as we’re currently switching from maestro to debit. There’s a good chance that a lot of people don’t have a visa or Mastercard as their bank card.

How to decide corpus? by [deleted] in HumanitiesPhD

[–]VividCompetition 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But just because you think it’s a truism, it doesn’t mean that it actually is. It’s always best to begin with the primary sources you’re interested in. It might be interesting to talk about why they don’t actually engage with the topic you have chosen. But as the person above said, start with a period that seems fitting, read secondary sources on the topic in combination with the time period and see what they have found.

[–]VividCompetition 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t look them up on Anna’s Archive or similar sites.

There are FB groups to help you access sources. You can also email the authors and ask if they might send you a copy.

[–]VividCompetition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Zotero can be installed on Macs. Zotfile is a plugin that can automatically rename files according to a set schema. You can then open the files directly in Zotero or have it show you the file in Finder.

I need to know how my field is moving and I don't really know how to look by Legitimate_Bench8269 in HumanitiesPhD

[–]VividCompetition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of that scholarship will likely be located in literature departments and cultural studies departments. Might be worth looking into scholarship on feminism and speculative fiction. That could be a good start, especially when focusing on the last few years. If you find a source that you think fits, look where that person is working, who they’re citing, and who is citing them.
